Drift Motion
This write up is a guide to show you how to do a retrofit with The Retrofit Source Morimoto Retro-Quik Mini H1 35W 5000K System/Kit for the Subaru Legacy. This is the kit: http://www.theretrofitsource.com/product_info.php?products_id=254 It's pretty much plug and play. Start by removing the front bumper. Instruction here: http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php/remove-bumper-4th-gen-178267.html After removing the bumper, loosen the bolts that holds the bumper bracket to the frame. I forgot exactly how many there are. Should be about 3 on the bottom, 2 on the side, and 2 on top http://legacygt.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=110802&stc=1&d=1327104622 http://legacygt.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=110803&stc=1&d=1327104622 http://legacygt.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=110804&stc=1&d=1327104622 Disconnect the wiring from the back of the headlights, and you can safely remove the headlights. Pre-heat the oven to 265°F yourself or get the women to do her job http://legacygt.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=110805&stc=1&d=1327105046 Remove the big grey dust cap, and pull out all of the bulbs (low beam/high beam/turn signal) and remove the 4? 5? Torx bit screw from the back of the headlights. You can leave the wiring there...it's fine. Put them in for about 7 min, and remove them from the oven. It can be pretty hot...so watch out. Get a knife or something that's flat and wide and just start prying on the headlights around the edges until you can open up the front cover of the headlights. If it gets too cold, just throw it back in the oven to heat up the glue again. ======================================================= Optional: You can remove the 4? Torx screw on the front cover of the headlights and take out the housing to clear out the orange reflector. The orange reflector just snaps out. I did this mod when I first got the car, thus it's not there. http://legacygt.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=110810&stc=1&d=1327105598 ======================================================= Now unbolt the 4 screws that holds the projector to the housing. Note: I didn't take a picture of the OEM projector in the housing before it was taken out...the picture below is the finished assembled TRS Mini H1 Projector http://legacygt.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=110806&d=1327104809 If you like the blue color, above the cut off (see pictures at the end), unscrew the 4 screws holding down the projector lens and replace the washer with something thicker...I'm not too knowledgeable on this, but my friend told me to do it. Looks pretty cool to me, and AFAIK, no decrease in performance. Look up "Color mod" Then you'll need to assemble the projectors. TRS supplied a pair of brackets and 8x screws/spacer/nuts. Assemble as shown in the picture below. Screw -> Projector -> Spacer -> Bracket -> Nut http://legacygt.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=110811&stc=1&d=1327106091 You can test out the headlights on your own car or get someone else's car for the wiring. Most HID kits have the same plugs...but just so happen that my friend also have the same TRS kit on his Accord... http://legacygt.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=110812&stc=1&d=1327106637 http://d.static.memegenerator.net/cache/instances/400x/12/13134/13449861.jpg Heat up the oven again, same temp/time. You can get some headlight sealant around the edges and push the headlight front cover back with the housing. If you didn't have HID kit installed before, then drill a hole in the dust cap, I think it was either 1 inch or 7/8 inch to allow you to thread the wiring through. Here is how the wiring goes. http://legacygt.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=113462&stc=1&d=1330734004 Now enjoy the awesome cut off of the new projectors Top without headlight cover, bottom with headlight cover http://legacygt.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=110813&stc=1&d=1327107212 Sharp cut off, and you can see the blue from the color mod http://legacygt.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=110814&stc=1&d=1327107212 And say F U to the horrible OEM projectors + HID kits... http://legacygt.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=110815&stc=1&d=1327107212 Time to remove the bumper was about 1 hour? Time to take out the headlights 30min? Time to assemble the new projector kit because there was no instruction 2 hours Time to swap the projector 1 hour Hope this helps Edited March 3, 2012 by Drift Motion

SCHM1AN
Thanks a lot! I've been looking into doing a retrofit but didn't want to do a complete overhaul and buy a new set of lights so I could make a completely custom setup. This looks easy enough to do in a day. I'd be interested for some more pictures of the throw on the new kit if you get a chance
Drift Motion
I've taken some pics of the setup...not exactly how I want them so I'll be taking more sometimes next week and hopefully get my friend's TSX next to me again...
SCHM1AN
Cool, I'm interested to see the brightness and the pattern. Just for reference, what bulbs did you use on the standard projectors before the retrofit, and how much better are the HIDs?

SCHM1AN
*Thanks button clicked* I'm going to order these in spring when the weather is a little nicer. I'm very impressed with the results
SubOperator
Do you have any protective film on the headlights ? And did you have to focus the TRS lenses at all or does assembling the TRS projector in the order shown take care of that ? My low beams are severely out of focus, I am thinking about taking the protective film off one light to see if that's the reason. very impressed with your retrofit, thanks for pics ! 2005 LGT Wagon Limited 6 MT RBP Stage 2 - 249K 2007 B9 Tribeca Limited DGM - 272K SOLD - 2005 OB Limited 5 MT Silver - 245K SOLD - 2010 OB 6 MT Silver - 205K

mds0017
Damn why did i have to see how good that looks. Now I might have to spend the extra cash to do a retro. Have you had any issues with the lights igniting whatsoever?

Have you had any issues with the lights igniting whatsoever? I just ordered the kit. The kit comes with a relay system that hooks directly into the battery instead of using the stock wiring system which will ensure no flickering whatsoever. 12sechatch
paintpollz - depending on what TRS says, we might be able to get you retroactively in on this....PM me or "k3nj11" on sf.org I've just been given the "ok" to pass along the groupbuy info for TRS. Guys over at SubaruForester.org are organizing it, with a 25% discount. The code works on a "complete kit" only, so it will work for the retro-quik system (or any other complete kit). If anyone is interested in ORDERING WITHIN THE NEXT WEEK OR SO pm me and/or get in contact with the guy organizing it (k3nj11) to get the code. Link to their thread is below. The link is to the first page, but the group buy talk starts around page 8 or 10. The "finalized" talk starts around page 15-17. http://www.subaruforester.org/vbulletin/f85/morimoto-mini-h1-bi-zenon-projector-install-96594/
