12sechatch
Only struts in this particular car, they're essentially the same thing but a shock only dampens whereas a strut serves multiple functions (ie mount for brake line).
05leggy
I figured shocks weren't technically necessary. I mean for just about $500 this stance and ride is perfect for what I want! Coils aren't necessary for my DD. just want a sweet lookin ride
05leggy
One more question! If I buy just the kyb front and rear struts, do I need anything else or can I just reuse the factory mounts and dust boots?
Leonardo
You should be good reusing everything unless you want to upgrade your front top mounts to Spec B ones.

Don't mean to bump an old post, but I was doing some research and felt the need to correct the misinformation... The Legacy uses both struts and shocks. Shocks in the rear, struts in the front. Either can have attachments for brake lines and is not the determining factor. Struts differ from shocks in that they are a structural member in the suspension system. Shocks are simply dampeners to a multi-link suspension system that does not rely on the shock itself to link one component to another, rather only to control motion. In that case, the rear would be considered struts according to your definition because the rear shocks hold the springs which support the vehicle. In reality the front are macpherson struts and the rears are non adjustable coilovers. -mike http://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/91072632.jpghttp://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/141039922.jpg http://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/133406601.jpg http://upload.pbase.com/image/137566671.jpg 11+ Years Maintaining, Modifying and Educating TriState Subaru Enthusiasts. Yes, then by my own definition, the rears would be struts because they bear the weight of the vehicle because of the coilover design.
AZP Installs
Cars like the 370z do have true shocks in the rear where the spring independently supports the rear lower control arms. -mike http://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/91072632.jpghttp://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/141039922.jpg http://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/133406601.jpg http://upload.pbase.com/image/137566671.jpg 11+ Years Maintaining, Modifying and Educating TriState Subaru Enthusiasts.
