Scruit
Anyone else seen this? I did a couple days of advanced driver training at MidOhio in my own car (05 LGTL) and found that when I went through the chicanes I would get normal ligth steering on the first turn-in, but the steering would seem to lose all assist when I tried to turn back (to straighten the can back up. The instructor wrote this off as "cavitation". This morning I overcooked a corner from a stop sign and the back end came out. I was able to steer into it just fine, but when I went to straighten the wheel back up it was like I had no assist. If I sit withthe engine running, car not moving, and steer 1/4 turn one way quickly then 1/4 the other way I can feel the resistance kick in as the steering becomes heavier. Is this normal? CombatCQB
doesn't sound normal to me. any suspension mods?
Scruit
No mods to the running gear at all. Engine/trans/suspension/steering/tires/wheels etc are all bone stock. I'm thinking the pump is not able to provide enough assist for sustained high assist. I'll check the belt is tight, then maybe change the fluid just for grins. May wind up with a new PS pump in there. We'll see.

Scruit
That's the frist thing I will check then. Thanks for the heads-up. Also, getting an outside opinion that it's not normal is a great help. Thanks!
chutrain
More likely the belt. You can also bleed the system of air just in case some is trapped. Not sure if these cars are able to bleed the system by normal driving.
whitetiger
in general its easy to get ahead of the power steering on these cars. i do it all the time in autox. its in the rack valving and it probably the nature of the beast.
