111pdx
99 outback fuel tank fills slowly; fuel nozzle frequently cuts off. It helps to back the nozzle out as far as possible but still cuts off often. Put it on a lift to check for tank & filler neck damage - none seen. Osei
There is a valve connected to the filler neck that controls this operation. do a search here:http://www.main.experiencetherave.com/subaru_manual_scans/1999_Legacy_FSM/ should help you diagnose and fix. sachilles
Purge valve. Easy to get at, but usually rusted in place. IIRC they are about $70. It's on the passenger side, between the rear bumper and rear wheel well. Find the charcoal canister(black box, about the size of a small shoe box). Follow rubber house to the valve. Has a two wire plug. It's about the size of a racquetball, held on by one bolt. Has a rubber hose on either side of it. To confirm that it's the culprit, unhook the rubber hose from it and fill up. If that solves the problem replace the valve. Do not leave unhooked.
Osei
Check the wiring while there, sometimes that is the culprit. O.
