Kennyfvholla
93 Legacy FSM doesn't specify lock to lock. At some point today I will try to find out for myself. I'll either ask my buddy to check his, or if he's at work I'll get the keys and check myself.
mtcookson
A magazine from 1991 lists the SS as have 3.3 turns lock to lock. A bunch of websites say 99 GT is 3.2. Tried to find some auto magazine reviews with the info but no luck yet.
Kennyfvholla
Hmm that means it's exactly the same as my 96GT...
David E
My 99 Outback is pretty much 3.5 Just checked.
Kennyfvholla
FSM for 96 shows the OB being 3.4 turns lock to lock, and everything else besides the OB is 3.2 I really want to understand why the SS just changes direction so quickly.. Wheels base is the same, and it has 18mm sways front and rear compared to 20mm and 18mm for the front and rear of a GT, respectively. They EXACT same spring rates front and rear, although I'm not sure about the strut dampening... It could be firmer. But if it's the same, could a sway bar that is 2mm larger make as much of a difference as there is??

MissJapaneseSubaru
Would the wrx steering racks fit in a 95 legacy l?
subikid90
^No Well you can make it fit but you will need a wrx front cross member, wrx sway bar, custom headers and a wrx steering rack. Not worth it IMO -Subikid90 1997 Legacy GT 5spd & EJ251 w/EJ25D heads ~10.5CR 1998 Legacy GT Limited waiting for EJ22T hybrid swap
MissJapaneseSubaru
Which will bolt up. That is a better upgrade?.
subikid90
Unless you are doing a turbo swap it is not worth the $ and work. The reason for a rack upgrade usually is because of autocrossing, where you want a small turns to lock. -Subikid90 1997 Legacy GT 5spd & EJ251 w/EJ25D heads ~10.5CR 1998 Legacy GT Limited waiting for EJ22T hybrid swap
Kennyfvholla
the WRX turning rack is 3.0 turns lock-to-lock your steering rack is 3.2 turns lock-to-lock definitely not worth it
TexasLegacy2.5GT
the WRX turning rack is 3.0 turns lock-to-lock your steering rack is 3.2 turns lock-to-lock definitely not worth it ^^^So was the old first gen SS any sort of gain? Thinking outside of the box here...but the RS Subie of the same year had some great STI hardware on it. I don't think many legacy guys get on the forum 2.5RS to check out what we can actually use as direct swapping from parallel year models. This is a 99' WRX STI (known as a Impreza WRX STi GF8). Bet this steering rack is worth looking into... http://i231.photobucket.com/albums/ee134/Rubenjc111/78CA716D.jpg http://i231.photobucket.com/albums/ee134/Rubenjc111/F32DD2B4.jpg http://i231.photobucket.com/albums/ee134/Rubenjc111/8A11530C.jpg
subikid90
^same issues as the WRX I believe. -Subikid90 1997 Legacy GT 5spd & EJ251 w/EJ25D heads ~10.5CR 1998 Legacy GT Limited waiting for EJ22T hybrid swap
TexasLegacy2.5GT
^same issues as the WRX I believe. ^^^I can go and have a look at it. It's here in Dallas, Tx. I know that the 03' WRX needs a ton of work to make happen. There is so much of these ole 2.5RS's that is a good match for our Second Gen Lego's. I'll have a definitive answer on it this next week... subikid90
The reason it wont bolt up is because of the front subframe. All turbo subarus have a different subframe then NA's. -Subikid90 1997 Legacy GT 5spd & EJ251 w/EJ25D heads ~10.5CR 1998 Legacy GT Limited waiting for EJ22T hybrid swap
