A Miata is just like a Mustang/Camaro in that you can build one to do whatever you want. Straight line speed is only a 302 away. They can already turn and burn so making one even better is so easy it's a joke. Want a cheap weekend top down toy? Perfect choice. Now and then some Monster Miatas pop up on Ebay and I'd love to find one in my area.

The miata isn't really in my interest, even though I know they are awesome for auto-x.

However I will most likely be buying an 88 5.0 convert in a couple years, so after restoring it for the most part, I'll also apply some upgrades for power/handling in that for track or auto-x.

I know I'm not going to be competitive with my legacy in my auto-x class, but I just want to improve my driving skills and have fun in a car I love to drive.

Why a 88 5.0? Do you know anything about them?

Gf's family member has one and is holding on to it for me. I know a little about them, but once I buy it in a couple of years I'll be doing alot of research on it. Either way I'm going to fix up the electrical gremlins it has, fix the paint, and add power/handling mods so it can be a spirited weekender at the least.

That looks good lordeldor! What size tire are you running?

Old thread & this may be more odd than helpful, but these are Silver 17x8 RPF1's on my 05 Outback way back when. Rubber is 275 40 17 Falken Azenis tires.

215/45/17 I had the tire shop try 225, but with the stock suspension there were clearance issues with the strut. The tires are bridgestone potenza re760.

Really? That's a hugely popular upgrade size on OEM wheels. Unless a wider, slightly more aggressive wheel pushed the tire in more.

Hmmm... Well I suppose it was my mistake for trusting the guy at the tire shop. That or the only other tires they had were too big. They did mount a larger tire that had clearance issues. Either way I plan to get wider tires next time around.

I have 18x8 +45 RPF1s with 225-40-18 tires (doesn't look stretched at all), I love them, the 17s look too small on our cars; in my opinion because of the design of the wheel. But on the flipside, if you buy the 17s you get the benefit of cheaper, and better tire selection.

Autocross, 2.5i brakes? Why not go to a 16x7 wheel and get a even lighter combo with a reduced diameter. Wheels are cheap enough you can have dedicated tire/wheel for autocross.
All I need now is a hill holder and a center passing light...
