Mazda Takeri and CX-5

Recommended Posts

Wow the CX-5 looks amazing and if they put the motor in it from the MZ6/MZ3 it will be sweet! Also take a look at the Takeri concept it looks like the shinari a little bit. If Mazda makes that as the next Mazda 6 and with awd and if they hopefully make a new MZ6,it will steal some sells from the legacy. I love the new KODO design direction they're going, and making improvments with interior quality and powertrains they will be doing even better in the next few years.

The MS3 engine? I thought those engines were blowing even when showroom stock.

Yep. A fly fart above stock boost, and you'll jog a rod.

The best thing you can do to an MS3, is suspension work and perhaps the OE 3" catback if you want it to make more noise.

The Takeri would be interesting, if they don't dilute it too much.

Information on the CX-5 from the LA show is out.

Estimated AWD fuel economy 25/30, puts it in the range of the Juke, Countryman and Legacy. Only models ahead of it for combined mpg are the new Impreza and a few hybrids. (New Escape will probably be in the running too, though they've only given it a vague "+5 mpg" estimate so far.)

A bit more information, from Straightline:

  • 0-60 estimate:
    • FWD auto: 8.6s
    • AWD auto: 8.8s

    [*]Tires:

    • P225/65R17 Yokohama Geolanders
    • P225/55R19 Toyo A25s

    [*]On sale mid-February.

[*]Pricing in line with CR-V and Rav4.

If the 0-60 time is at all accurate, that's faster than the NA Forester auto at 9.2s (Motor Trend). While the Forester still has the 4EAT, it does have a 15hp and 26 ft-lb torque advantage over the CX-5, and weighs a bit less (3306 lbs vs. 3426 lbs).

We also spoke to Mazda engineer Masuhiro Mora, who told us that although the American CX-5 is tuned to run right as rain on 87 octane, there's likely to be at least a modest performance benefit to filling it up with 91 when we eventually test it. "With 91, you should have slightly better torque in theory," he said.

I think it looks fantastic. I will be Looking to sell my Legacy in the coming year after my marriage. I will be adopting her 2011 Forester XT Touring  and we will be looking for another small SUV for her (she just doesn't like the 2011 as much as her old 2005 XT because it doesn't feel as athletic). This guy has already got our attention, though we both admittedly hope they will endow it with the 2.3L Turbo from the CX-7 (there has been no such speak).
