LegacyKid5
So Im looking at an 05 GT wagon that a dealership is bringing in, he said the car needs a new turbo which they are replacing currently. Is this something to watch out for, should I stay away from a car like this? I know the turbos do need to be replaced here and there, I was just curious you guy's thoughts. Max Capacity
Did the turbo blow is is it still working ? I changed my VF40 before it blow, I went with a vf52. If the turbo blow, make sure they drop the oil pan and flush the oil system for metal particles. Get a warrenty. 305,600miles 5/2012 ej257 short block, 8/2011 installed VF52 turbo, @20.8psi, 280whp, 300ftlbs. (SOLD). CHECK your oil, these cars use it. ehsnils
Also - if the turbo is replaced due to damage - make sure that the up pipe is cat-free.
LegacyKid5
so far all I know is that he said the turbo needs to be replaced, I will have to check and see if that is due to a blown turbo.
LegacyKid5
Here is what I was told when asking if it needed to be replaced due to a blown turbo: "It was blown. From what I can gather they had it parked for 10 months due to an injury which prevented them from driving a manual. They never checked anything on the car before they started driving it again." StoplightAssassin
Yeah right. Ask for the medical bills. Sounds more like the engine is blown and the dealer is trying to pass it off as just a blown turbo.
ehsnils
Make sure that they give you a great warranty on that new turbo and potential engine damage or the deal is off. 12 months/5k miles would keep you on the safe side from any unexpected effects. The latest version of the turbo replacement TSB is also important - it definitely says that the engine must have been thoroughly cleaned/flushed from all residue of a blown turbo. Some more info here: http://store.forcedperformance.net/merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=Info_SubaruOil Please note that one of the TSB:s on the page is outdated and is replaced by TSB 02-106-08R dated 06/02/09 (you can find the text here: http://legacygt.com/forums/showpost.php?p=2981886&postcount=610 ) Maybe someone can pull the latest version from here: http://techinfo.subaru.com/index.html
BAC5.2
I've parked a Turbo Subaru for about that long. Got it all back together, fired it up, then did a big nasty burnout. I don't even think I changed the oil after all that time.
