Please help fix my moonroof tilt

Recommended Posts

Hi LGT,

I have a big problem with my 05 Outback XT limited

I've searched through the 2005-2009 forums and found these two topics:

http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php/wagon-moonroof-front-glass-wont-go-down-136874.html?t=136874&highlight=sunroof

http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php/need-help-wagon-mooroof-problems-39290p3.html?highlight=sunroof+stuck

Neither of them were very helpful. The motor works fine, infact it will open and close the large glass portion of the roof without problems. When I go to open or close the tilt the side that's up moves about half an inch but the side stuck down doesn't move at all. I've read through the service manual but couldn't find illustrations of the small parts. Has anyone else had this problem and were able to fix it? The car is no longer under warranty. I'm very stressed out by the situation and would appreciate any help. Thank you

With the sliding portion of the glass open I can at least see that there doesn't look to be anything in the way

Could someone please post a picture of what the moon roof rails look like with the moonroof sliding portion back and the top part flipped open?

EDIT: I had someone press on the side that was stuck in the up position while I worked the switch and we were able to bring it down. It does lock into place closed but the tilt will no longer lift up. For now, I'm just so relieved that I can drive my car outside and not worry about the glass shattering from being twisted

Mine is like that. There have been other threads on this topic in the past. One was covered under warranty. But basically you are SOL. You will need to replace the entire frame. The dealer will want $1000 for the frame and about $300 in labor. Or you will need to find one from the junk yard and do it yourself. Or just don't use your moonroof.
