Dealership replaced heads (and more see attached pics) & now I have a loud engine -

Recommended Posts

So last week my car started losing power and I got a flashing CEL. Thankfully I was near the dealer at the time and I went in and found out there was a lot of work needed. Thankfully I was still under 100,000 miles (barely) but the work was covered under warranty. The work as you can see below involved replacing both heads, their gaskets, and a few other things I'm unsure about. When I got the car back I realized it sounded louder but I figured it was due to the new valve cover / intake assembly. However after being on the highway last night I can say with certainty that the engine should not sound this loud. My initial thoughts are that perhaps the connection between one of the heads and the exhaust was not secured properly (if this is even correct). So I'm throwing this out there to you elite to try to diagnose this while I wait for the dealership to call me back.

In addition I crawled under the car looking for exhaust issues (just by visual inspection with the car off) and I noticed something else that doesn't look right. I've taken a few pictures of this (not sure what it is) but it is in the middle of the car between the two rear wheels. It looks like it may be leaking oil. Is this some type of gearbox? Should I have this replaced?

Thank you in advance for the help. It is always appreciated!

Rear diff is leaking eh? Take it in while your still under 100k

Thank you for this info. They are replacing the gasket under warranty.

Bolts are loose on the exhaust manifold to the head or to the mid pipe.

I figured something was not put on right but I'm being told this noise is due to a wheel bearing in my left rear tire. I doubt it's coincidental that it just happened to start the day I got the car back but as long as they fix it, I'll be happy.

I have no idea how that could have happened.

Thank you both for the helpful info.
