BMW Has Lost is Way

Recommended Posts

I used to sell BMW's but I am really glad that I do not any longer. The only cars currently offered that are really worth buying are the 3 series cars, and the M3. Everything else is rubbish.

This new M5 is handicapped by being built on the finest Mercedes E-Class platform ever devised..... the current 5 series that is. The 5 series car is no longer a BMW in my opinion, and neither is the current 7 series.

The Z4 is now a bloated overweight caricature of itself.

The 6 series is equally disappointing, not sure what market they are going for here? Wealthy people who had a fondness for the 1980's era Ford Thunderbird? Too heavy, too big, not enough performance.

The 5 Series GT orwhateverthefuckitis is simply awful to look at, weighs far too much, and it evidently a sales loser.

The X6 and the M derivative? WTF? What does it do well? Nothing but burn large amounts of petrol.

The X5 see above except with more room.

The 1 series is a let down as well mostly due to excessive costs, in fact that goes for all of the model lineup. BMW is now an insanely expensive brand for a car with even mildly desirable options. It seems the Germans are in a race to see who can make themselves the least relevant car company by making more an more expensive cars with poorer and poorer build quality.

I agree with most of what Penguin said, except the new 7-series is a fantastic car to drive. It blows the S-class out of the water, bar none.

I don't understand the X6 at all.

BMW and MB lost there way a LONG time ago- late 90s if you ask me. Ridiculously unreliable electronics, few manual transmissions, ugly styling, etc. They are really more fashion accessories for those who don't actually care what they drive so long as it's noticed now. This is from someone whose grandfather and father also drove MB and BMW; I wouldn't even consider a new one nor would my son. This doesn't bode well for the future.

The new 7 is not bad, even the last one was pretty good to drive, but ultimately no car that size really going to deliver a true sport sedan performance.

I am especially disappointed in the new 5 series from a complexity and cost standpoint.

My father in laws 2011 750i x-drive with the sport suspension package is sporty enough, but you are right that it's no sport sedan.

If this was something that someone installed themselves, we would all be calling it the most rice thing we have ever seen. This is OEM rice at it's finest.

Lexus winds with the IS300 tail lights. They sparked a fad that refuses to die the quick and painless death it deserves.

I thought the lights came after the release of the car? That's why they are called "Altezza" lights, after the Toyota Altezza?

Yep. Originated on the Altezza.

I stand by the assertion that Toyota holds the record for factory rice. BMW can be a close second...

No comments yet on Friday's official release of the F30 Sedan..??

Overall, I think it looks pretty good. I like the new headlights a lot, although the way the hood angles down at the nose doesn't look very BMW-like.

Seek first to understand, then to be understood.

In other words: SEARCH before you post!

It took me awhile to look at the new car in those photos and get used to the front end, at first I really disliked the new headlamps and grill. Closer inspection reveals some design details that make it quite nice, like how the headlamps terminate inboard at the exposed edges of the chrome kidneys. The new hood profile will take some getting used to, but from profile looks kind of Jaguar-esque, really not bad at all. The coupe should look great with that nose and a more fastback shaped greenhouse.
