craptastic
So I changed the tranny oil yesterday in my sisters 5mt outback with 129000 miles on it. No idea when it was last changed but it was dirty. The only synthetic the local parts store had was Lucas Oil 75-90 which the bottle said was LSD safe. It was only $12 a quart which struck me as cheap for synthetic. Is this fluid acceptable or is there some reason I shouldn't have used it? It's this stuff:http://www.lucasoil.com/products/display_products.sd?iid=47&catid=12&loc=show
Max Capacity
Read this thread for the recommended cocktail. http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php/5mt-not-going-into-gear-169978.html Ask BAC5.2 what he thinks about what you did. As for me, both my legacys have Amsoil Severe Gear 75w-90 in the trannys. Tho my 05's rear diff has Extra S in it, because I had a bottle left over. My 09 Spec B has Amsoil in it's rear diff. 305,600miles 5/2012 ej257 short block, 8/2011 installed VF52 turbo, @20.8psi, 280whp, 300ftlbs. (SOLD). CHECK your oil, these cars use it. craptastic
Thanks for that link. I only have posession of the car for a few more days before I will return it to my sister. (i'm her personal mechanic) I figured even if that Lucas synthetic wasn't optimal it would probably be better than whatever was in there. We don't know the car's maintenance history since she bought it last winter used with 120+k miles.
