TRSCobra
I wonder if making the actuator be normally open, with engine vacuum to hold it shut, would offer quicker spool than the current setup? It would likely be loud for a second at startup, but as soon as you gas it and it goes to zero vacuum and into boost, it would be wide open. On second thought, it might get annoying to DD a car like that.
BAC5.2
Anything vacuum operated is asking for disaster. fahr_side
I don't have a boost gauge in my car now but do you think I will be at 5psi driving 75? Also is there any risk in having the exhaust exit under the car before the rear axle? You should never see boost in cruise. Point the exit straight down or point like a side-exit should be fine. Might be illegal in many places, but you shouldn't melt anything. Obligatory 'build thread' Increased capacity to 2.7 liters, still turbo, but no longer need spark plugs. fahr_side
^ Haha. Damn hair-splitter! Mine will also push into boost in resume or uphill, but cruise control isn't what I meant. I had the 'cruise' tables in the ECU in mind, which are tied to the closed-loop side of the CL-OL switch. I'm sure I've never logged boost while in CL, and my delay is set at zero. SleeperWagon
There isn't much room under the car to put a second exhaust on without severly affecting ground clearance. This was my first idea, but there just isn't enough room. If you're doing a cutout, you want it as close to the turbo as possible with the most direct path out. Otherwise your cutout will do little more than be a noisemaker. I looked at it, it will work with the right muffler. As long as the pipe off of the cutout is 3" it will flow better then the stock exhaust and be more then a "noisemaker".
SleeperWagon
Little update went into the exhaust shop and looks like we can make it work the car was supposed to go in on Monday but I can drive it due to the turbo inlet having a hole in it so I will reschedule. I also ordered the valve and it should be here in a couple of weeks!
SleeperWagon
http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t93/specvictory/4b092d15.jpg Not super happy as they installed it in the wrong spot but I think it is to late to do much about it. When I came in to talk to them about what we were going to do we decided that it would be installed just before the bend to the cat so that it would run parallel to the stock exhaust so it could be tucked up a bit. I didn't notice when I took the picture as I was more looking at the welds and they guy was in a hurry to get me out of there. What would be the best place to tap in for the vac line? Anyone have any good ideas of what I should use for the line material?
TRSCobra
That looks like it hangs a bit low. I'd be avoiding speedbumps like the plague. Did they look at the clocking of the cutout before they welded the flange on?
SleeperWagon
I know, if they would have installed it where I asked them to it would have been the same level as the catt. The car isn't lowered much if at all so its not much of a issue. The cutout comes flanged and it should be ok. I am going to try it without a muffler its not that loud lol
SleeperWagon
So I am thinking about using some heat resistant silicone vac line anyone have any experiences with it? Like this: http://www.streetunit.com/Vacuum_Line_p/v-018.htm
TRSCobra
The vid link says page not found. As for the silicone, I'd personally run some 3/16" steel brake line most of the distance, then use the silicone stuff for the ends. I'm not too fond of extended vacuum lengths. SleeperWagon
No, I have all the parts now but I have not had time to hook it up yet. Any reason I shouldn't use copper for the hard line material? I think I have a role of it left over from something.
