Shanghai Auto Show - Subaru XV

If this is a new OBS, it's apparently getting Outback/Forester size ground clearance? (The current OBS is 6.3", just a hair over the normal Impreza hatch and sedan.)

So this will compete with the Juke, Outlander Sport, Countryman, and other actually small crossovers?

FHI Introduces the “SUBARU XV CONCEPT” as the World Premiere (PDF/129.4KB)

Engine: 2.0-liter four cylinder Horizontally-Opposed DOHC engine

That's about 4.9 - 5.5" higher than the current '11 Outback Sport (depending on whether they count roof rails in the XV concept's listed height).

I think this is one of those rare cases where the actual production model will end up looking better than the "concept." Those wheels/rims on this thing are just out-of-hand and it's sitting waaay to high. Once they get some realistic wheels on this (like the current VX in post #3 above) this will look like a proper refreshed Outback Sport and be a nice little car rather than a ghetto'd up Nissan Rogue.

The only thing I really dislike about this concept is the rear end. It just seems really busy. Ditch some or all of the chrome and that center-bumper reflector/light, and it probably won't be as off-putting. (And of course the wheels and LCD-behind-plastic center stack will change before it sees production.)

I looked at the '07 Outback Sport / Impreza 2.5i, before buying my Legacy. I just felt it was a bit too cramped, the interior was a bit lacking, and the mpg was actually worse (if only by 1mpg) than the larger Legacy. The XV looks promising. And the added ground clearance is something I could use, on occasion.

The Outback is more space than I need, and gets expensive optioned up (at least $28k with CVT, moonroof, AWP; $30k if you want that with leather). The Forester is still stuck with 4EAT (though the CVT is presumably coming MY12 or 13, we haven't heard anything yet).
