xero287
Hey everyone, I have a set of 06 lgt struts that im putting in my 05 lgt. I cannot seem to fit all three studs of the top hat into the holes in the body of the car. The most I can get is 2 out of 3. I was wondering if the 06 and 05 have very VERY slightly different top hats. I can swap out my top hats onto the 06 struts (reason being because the 06 struts have better springs on them), but I dont know where to go to do this for cheap. I started this at 11 am this morning so one can only imagine my dismay. Thanks,Riyaad
PeterJMC
These are from my 2006. Anyone know if the 2005 front struts are different?
OutbackXT05
I had the same problem on my outback when I did the legacy suspension swap. All I ended up doing was lifting hte suspension up with my jack because it was only very slightly off so it didnt mess up my threads. I forget what year legacy I got mine from but mine did end up fitting.
xero287
Yeah, I can see all of the studs in all three holes at the beginning stages of linign it up but i didnt want to jack it in because i was afraid id strip the bolts
PeterJMC
Can you get the threads in partially? Did you try tightening the nuts to pull the strut up?
xero287
Yeah tried that, I got my mechanic friend to help me tomorrow, gonna change the top hats out to see if that helps, ill just rent the compressor from autozone or something
BAC5.2
Part numbers for the front top hats are the same. 20320AG00A for left and right, from 05-09. Post a picture, but I think you are midjudging things. It's possible that the very very early 2005's were slightly different, but they couldn't have possibly used the earlier strut tops (PN 20320AA100) because that's the Impreza top hat, and that's not even remotely close to fitting. PeterJMC
Just got back from helping xero287. Weird, his 2005 top hats were definitely slightly off compared to the ones I sold him. After using a lot of man strength and brains we were able to swap the top hats. I hope the rest of the install went well!
