old head unit w/out remote amp turn on

My Car

Recommended Posts

hey audio section,

ive got a Cerwin Vega 12 inch sub (pictured) and a 400 watt Dual amp. I have not got any of this set up in my car yet because ive been waiting to get some money to buy a new head unit because all i have is my stock stereo in my 94 legacy. BUT, ive been thinking about skipping the new stereo and just somehow hooking up my amp and sub. problem is the remote turn on wire. where can i wire it? can i even wire it to my stock head unit? is there a way to "hack" it so i can turn on the amp manually? im a pretty cheap guy. you should see the speakers i got wired up to replace the rear ones that disintegrated with age. pretty ghetto but im about function over form.

This device will save you time and headaches. It will give you RCAs for the amp and your remote turn on wire. You don't even need to pull the radio.[ame=http://www.amazon.com/PAC-SOEM-T-2-Channel-Line-Out-Converter/dp/B003550RLE]Amazon.com: PAC SOEM-T 2-Channel Premium Line-Out Converter with Remote Turn-On Trigger: Automotive[/ame] It senses the speaker level to provide the 12V. Very clever

You have two options if you don't want to spend any money.

1. if your headunit has a power antenna wire run your amp turn on wire there.

2. if you don't have the above you can just connect it to acc so it's on all the time when the car is running.

that looks like an ingenious little devise but ive since figured it out and wired it to the radio fuse. here's a little video of me testing my sub if anyone is interested.

well... your rear view mirror rattles enough that it's not really usable and the music sounds like ass... but to each their own...

right I know. but i was doing a full capacity test. also the camera mic makes it sound like ass. i like having the bass low so i it blends better with the music but if im showing it off i like to blast it.

You don't need a cap! That will not help. The problem is the alternator does not put out enough power. 85 amps is it's maximum output, around 35 at idle. Get one of these instead.http://www.maniacelectricmotors.com/hiou195ampsu.html (Or don't) By adding a cap you'll just be adding 1 more thing for the already taxed alternator to keep charged. People seem to think that a cap is a magical device that gives you free power~~well what do you think gives it it's power?

optimal setting

I used wire from a spool of appliance wire my dad had. its like 8 gauge but still supplies enough power. I used the high level input because i dont have any RCA jacks on my old head unit but it still sounds amazing. ill get a video up soon.

point and laugh if you must.
