f1anatic
[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qPjTds5alQM]YouTube - RaceComp Engineering Regular Guy Springs How-To Install[/ame] I am loosely following this video (for an STI) as guidance and it just occured to me that my rear KYBs did not come with bump stops and the instructions from VACATION PICTURES do not call for using one. On the other hand, these instructions http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php/koni-shock-strut-epic-engineering-spring-install-145744.html do NOT call for a rubber stop. So what is the correct assembly ? With or without the rubber stop ? Where do you get one...? I do not want to disassemble my old struts to get to that rubber piece. I have all other parts brand new. My second rate brand new KYBs came 2 made in Japan (rears) and 2 made in USA (fronts) judging by the inscriptions on the struts. I guess I know what will fail first. m sprank
There is no bump stop on the rear strut itself. The stop is on the car. It is the conical stop the hits the flat plate on the arm. Nothing on the strut to install.

spartan
Has anyone cut the rear bump stop in the same manner as the front to gain more rear travel when lowered?
m sprank
You better have a strut that is shorter and can handle it. Your gonna blow the strut. Even KW and RCE void the warranty on their coils if you go too low in the rear.
f1anatic
Question: Do I need the front bump stop as shown in the above-referenced KONI install thread ? http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php/koni-shock-strut-epic-engineering-spring-install-145744.html The KYB Struts as received. 4 questions: (1) Do I have to slide the bump stop over the strut shaft ? What if I don't have any ? (2) Must I absolutely use the conical washer or can I just use 2 washers, as shown in the picture, in the same configuration as the conical washer, so that the smaller diameter washer only presses against the metal part of the top hat (3) The two holes on the front strut perch face which way ? in the same direction as the bracket at the bottom of the strut I presume ? (4) The rear strut lower bolt axis and strut mount studs axis are to be perpendicular on one another ? Thanks.
m sprank
Question: Do I need the front bump stop as shown in the above-referenced KONI install thread ? http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php/koni-shock-strut-epic-engineering-spring-install-145744.html You should be able to reuse your OEM front bumpstops. that is what KYB intended. The KYB Struts as received. 4 questions: (1) Do I have to slide the bump stop over the strut shaft ? What if I don't have any ? Yes. Slide it on over the shaft before assembling. If you dont have any, get some. Not sure if OEM has a part number. But plenty of aftermarket alternatives. (2) Must I absolutely use the conical washer or can I just use 2 washers, as shown in the picture, in the same configuration as the conical washer, so that the smaller diameter washer only presses against the metal part of the top hat Never tried two washers. Always used the conical. Only time I have heard of people using different is when they use SpecB tophats with Koni struts. (3) The two holes on the front strut perch face which way ? in the same direction as the bracket at the bottom of the strut I presume ? Holes face towards outside of car. They are drain holes. If backwards spring will "pop" when turning (my experience). (4) The rear strut lower bolt axis and strut mount studs axis are to be perpendicular on one another ? Does not matter (too much). Get it close. Once it is mounted up top use a tool to turn the strut. I can do it with a ratchet extension or screwdriver, if not perfect. Thanks. Hope this helps.
