What size of winter tires can I fit on stock rims?

 

The stock size of 215/45/R17 is crazy exspensive

 

can I run a slightly taller tire? Wider or even narrower?

I like narrow tires for winter, they cut the slush drifts better. I use 205/50/17.

for snow you should use a narrow tire.

 

Im personally running the stock size, Watch craigslist/ ebay for them i got a brand new set of blizzaks for 225 picked up for my car.

So do I. Not much difference, just a little taller sidewall and slightly narrower contact patch.

I bought oem size snows off a guy who ran em on his matrix for 250 for the set. Just find out what other cars share the same tire size and look at classifieds that are advertised model specific. People that sell wheels/tires that way usually dont realize what the items worth. Just lowball em. Worked for me.

I understand the reasoning for the narrower tire. Has anyone here had experience with comparing, say, a 215 vs 235 width tire in the snow and slush? Is there a large difference in winter performance between the two? I'm putting aftermarket wheels on my newly bought '09 Spec B and would like to use a wider tire (all-season) for aesthetic reasons without degrading winter performance too much.

Lady ran them on her mazdaspeed6 for less then a week but apparently they were the wrong size? Lol
