RJS5689
The rear diff in the SpecB and STI are both a Torsen R180. You can use the same transmission components as long as they are paired correctly. The flywheel is larger and heavier in the SpecB, therefore it won't work when paired with a smaller STI clutch and pressure plate. You can, however, use STI/SpecB components in the same housing when paired correctly. I run an STI clutch, pressure plate and flywheel in my SpecB. For your application you'd probably prefer the STI components. The STI flywheel is lighter and smaller.
SCSpecB
^Hmmm....I think this would be a good option for me here in the near future....
Draco-REX
If you use a spec.B 6mt, you'll have the same gearing as an 07+ STI except for 6th which will be taller. Not a bad setup. I do not, however, know if the spec.B gearset will be as durable.

LuckyBob
I've heard (via NSFW's 6 speed swap thread) that the Spec.B R180 rear diff has a R160 input yoke, which indicates that it would be different than the STI part. Then again, if you're getting the tranny, diff, and driveshaft out of the Spec.B they'd all mate together just fine.

Draco-REX
If this will be a daily driver with maybe the occasional AutoX or RallyX, Subaru Extra-S is probably the best for you. If you plan to make this a dedicated track car or competitive AutoX/RallyX car, you'll want something that can hold up to the heat better. In that case, I'd recommend Motul or Amsoil. Strizzy
After switching to Motul gear oil, my low speed shifts to 1st have been extremely easier, and overall shifting is smoother. This is also with an STI Exedy clutch, lightweight flywheel and STI front LSD. My bad luck build
