BAC5.2
Is anyone actually using one of them? Either the one piece (single cat) or two piece (two cats)? I'm curious how much trimming is needed with the one-piece version. It reminds me of my old CES downpipe, but I dont want to have to hack away at it for hours to get it to fit. Looks like either of those pipes, plus the FBP downpipe adapter flange to the stock catback would be perfect for stage-2. gotsflat4love
From the pictures I have seen of them installed on members cars, they come really close if not touching the firewall. Look into CNT dp. Cheap and great product. They used to be called ERZ dp (but have be re branded) and have a few threads around here.
demo243
Running the one piece catted DP. Got it cheap used so couldnt pass it up. I trimmed the insulation, but it doesnt actually touch the fire wall... let me see if I can dig up a picture. http://i871.photobucket.com/albums/ab271/demo243/Stage%202%20Power%20Brakes%20Sways/0619002015a.jpg http://i871.photobucket.com/albums/ab271/demo243/Stage%202%20Power%20Brakes%20Sways/0621001732.jpg Its close, but its no big deal, havent had any issues with it. And surprisingly didnt have any install issues, she bolted right up and bolted to my Greddy Cat Back nicely too.
Windy Road
I'm running one. It does touch the insulation that is on the firewall but I don't consider that to be a deterrent from buying it. 276hp/347tq On a DynoJet Dyno Video - Had a big lean spot as you can tell in the second pull
BAC5.2
Hmm, thanks for the info and the pics (though I can't see them at work). I'm still kind of torn on the DP to get. I'm torn between the Perrin two-piece (with two cats), the Perrin one-piece, the AVO, and the CNT. The AVO looks great, and I really like the idea of having a flex-joint in the DP, but is awful expensive. The CNT looks OK, but I'm still not sure of the quality. The Perrin ones I'm nervous about based on the massive amounts of issues I've seen and heard about with the fitment and quality of Perrin products. scoobydoobie
If I were in the market now, definitely would go CNT. Great fitment, full 3", and best price out of any DP out right now.
BAC5.2
I just don't like the idea of losing a flex joint in the exhaust. With the stock catback, it isn't a huge issue. The CNT pipe can be used with the 3"->2.5" donut adapter and the stock donut gasket with longer bolts, the stock springs, and full retention of the flex-action of the stock exhaust. But, when in the future I decide to get a catback or just a midpipe, I'm in a bind and have few options. The CNT has a flat-flange end, and every catback I've seen has the same (a flat-flange for a 3" pipe). My options at that point are to cut the downpipe up and weld a flex-section in, or weld a 3" x 3/4" pipe to the end of the downpipe, and hack the end of the catback off and weld on a swaged pipe to run a 3" donut gasket with spring bolts. I don't MIND that option, but it's kind of a PITA. Any thoughts on the issue? BradyCat
also running Perrin one piece catted, and can confirm what others have said in regards to fitment. It does touch the firewall insulation, but not the firewall itself. Probably clears it by 1/4" or so. Like you said, the price is right for the Perrin, I got mine from Fred Beans for $385 shipped (to Canada). GTTuner
The Perrin should fit better IMO for the price. I've installed a few, they are tight at the firewall. Fitment up to some cat back systems is marginal too. I personally would buy something different unless someone can show me otherwise that it is the best choice. gotsflat4love
I am sorry, but just cause the name Perrin doesn't make it a better piece. CNT makes an incredible part for the price. I don't think you will have any issues whichever cat back route you go. I have just seen too many crappy Perrin products for me to even spend a dime on them. Look at their DP (pretty much touching the firewall), oh and their TMIC rubs all over the place and fitaments is crap. Only thing I would buy from them is their cat back which they no longer make. ***sorry for the rant, but when I first started modding, name was a lot to me as well. Just stay away from a lot of Megan Racing stuff
Gmachine
My Perrin 2 piece was close to the firewall, but cleared with no issues. Under the car required some reworking.
BAC5.2
It's not the brand I care about, it's the quality. It sounds like people really like the CNT. I am just trying to avoid "It's really nice for the price". I'm not willing to put up with poor fitment or the pipe cracking at the welds after 15k miles. Looks like I'll just go CNT! m sprank
Go CNT. I have owned CNT and Cobb. Installed everything else. CNT is not "good for the money". It is priced where everyone else SHOULD be. Everything else is OVERPRICED. CNT is an honest price.
