Compatability

What parts are you looking for? We can write you a list, but it would be easier to tell us what you're looking for.

All engine/transmission parts are interchangeable from 1989 to 1994, but I think the center diff changed somewhere during that time. If you need to replace body parts, try and stick to 1989-1990 parts. The Legacy got a facelift in 1991, and most of the front end body panels are different from 1991-1994.

Other than that pretty much anything from a 1989-1994 Legacy will fit. Some parts of the 1995-1998 Legacy will work, but not many. Lots of parts from the early Impreza will work.

Specifics would help us narrow down which cars you should be looking at. Although the 2.2L engine was used in several applications, there are a couple different versions. Suspension parts from other Subaru vehicles will fit onto the first generation Legacy, but we really need to know exactly what parts you're looking to replace.

subarus are like legos. any drivetrain part will fit from any impreza or legacy from 89-07. most suspension parts, and chassis parts from the impreza also fit. including the interior. the only thing u have to make sure when interchanging the parts is that the following part u put in matches each other. ie, if u wanna put an 04 STi transmission in. u have to use the 04 rear end to. u cant use an 07 rear. the gears are different. any EJ engine fits in any subaru car.

u have stumbled across a car u can pretty much do anything with.

In the U.S., the facelift was for the 92 model year. 90-91 were pre-facelift, 92-94 were post-facelift. There was no 89 Legacy in the U.S. -- AFAIK, that was a RHD-market-only model.
