Correct Bike Rack for Aero Bars

Recommended Posts

I nice LegacyGT Forums user sold me his aero bars for my 2005 Legact GT wagon. I want to make sure that I get the correct bike rack for them.

Is this it:

Part # BKRCK2 at http://www.subaruparts.com

I'm assuming "stock clamps" for an Outback would be the correct clamps for the Aero bars.

Thanks for everyone's help in finding the bars in the first place.

He sold you the factory crossbars, right? If so, they should have come with the clamps... Or did he sell you the bike rack? I looked at the link and didn't see any photos.

If it's a bike rack that you need for the factory crossbars, Thule has the Velo Vise that works perfectly. Look on Ebay or if you can't find them there you can get a bike rack for about $110.

If you have the crossbars w/o the clamps that mount it to the roof, I think you've been had...

I've mounted the crossbars to the roof just fine.

I just want to make sure that I get the right attachments to connect the bike rack to the crossbars. A rack with attachments meant for the square crossbars, for instance, isn't going to fit on the aero bars.

OK, I'm following now. Go to www.Thule.com or to www.Yakima.com and they have guides to help ensure that the fit is corect. I'm pretty sure, though, that the Velo Vise fits both aero and square bars. Just be careful that the tray you get doesn't extend too far towards the rear as it will hit the rear door when open. Good luck.

It looks like Yakima and Thule have "universal" mounts that will fit, but I'd rather have something that's OEM'd specifically for the the Subaru factory rack (also looks like it's cheaper this way).

Does anyone have experience with the rack I linked in the first post? A picture of it is halfway down on this page:

The OE Subaru bike rack is a Yakima rack. I have one on my WRX. There are people out there that recommend a fork mounted rack over this one, but it works fine for me.

I have the Thule 899xt, which now sells as the 899xtr, on my 00' Outback (it is a downtube clamp style that you don't have to take off the wheels for), it comes with mounts that attach directly to the factory crossbars, they can even attach to round our box bars too. This comes with everything you need, even an extra rear clamp and lock cyclinder that you won't know what to do with until you buy a second tray setup, the 599 xtr, because it doesn't come with either. It is a great system, one key for all. I found the best price at The Rack Warehouse.
