90 Legacy L Overheating

Recommended Posts

I picked up a 1990 Legacy L with 140k for 800 bucks a couple months back. The guy who sold it to me said that it was overheating, and that it needed a new thermostat.

Once I got the money to license the car, I replaced the thermostat and it kept overheating. I took it to my mechanic a few days ago and he said he could find no leaks of any kind and that everything appeared normal.

Scratching my head, I resorted to the internet. I am highly inexperienced when it comes to cars, and the only lead I could find was on this site:

http://www.fixya.com/cars/t3898957-overheating_radiator_without_leakage

He suggests the heater core is the problem. That site led me to this one:

http://www.subaruoutback.org/forums/88-head-gasket-issues/17264-no-subarus-dont-have-problems-there-headgaskets-print.html

In short, I don't know what to do next. I'm looking for any advice I can get.

Thanks
