legacy to 2.5rs conversion?

Recommended Posts

So I came across a 1997 legacy 2.5 gt sedan for about $3000 with a new clutch, timing belt, struts,..... the list goes on. basically its a steal. the thing is, ive been looking for a 2.5rs impreza for about 2 years now. so the question is, does anyone know of a conversion kit i can buy for the gt? or even at the least just a hood, front bumper cover, and wing. im pretty much in love with the body style. thanks in advance for the help

The wing is easy, just bolt on any wing from an RS.

The hood and bumper are a waste of time. They are two totally different designs, and for all intensive purposes unswappable without heavy modification and bodywork.

Just keep the look of the LGT, what's wrong with that? They look similar enough anyway, and they both have hood scoops already. Besides, the Legacy is a larger car, chicks dig large cars.

Actually the Impreza and 1st Gen. Legacy are much more alike body size wise than the 95-99 Legacy.

And yeah, the 97-99 Legacy GT is just a bigger Impreza 2.5RS.

Its bigger but the body parts are still kind of like trying to put a 1989-90 hood and fenders on a 1992-94 Legacy.... They may be VERY similar, but they're not similar enough to fit right without mods. He may be able to put the parts on if he switches everything... Headlights, bumper, bumper cover, grill, fenders, hood, ect.... But even then it might not look right. There are so many dimensions to worry about its almost insane. If this was an American made pickup between 1970 and 1989 it would be a bread-&-butter swap, but its not.... Its a mid 90's Japanese import. :(

  • 2 weeks later...

Chuck Norris does NOT swap front ends on cars, he swaps 2 cars on front ends

anyway, the bumper bolts up no problem, you just need the bumper beam to go with it...the whole front can be done, someone on sl-i did it, but he had project a.d.d. and never finishes anything

Chuck, grab a 2nd gen legacy L hood, this is the version without scoop..

and for 150$ off ebay you can get a wrx scoop and fabricate it to the hood, while cutting the hood and actually having a functional scoop!!
