Friend just got an 05 GTO

Recommended Posts

an aquaitance has a 300C and he says he is lucky to get 21 on the highway. I guess the cylinder deactivation is not all it's cracked up to be.

It really depends on the driver and stuff.

If he's one of those ANNOYING type drivers who, while driving even at freeway speeds, CONSTANTLY gives the car a little gas, then backs off, then gives the car a little gas, then backs off, etc etc. The cylinder deactivation is useless.

In order for the cylinder deactivation to work, they have to keep a constant speed without loading up the car (not going up hills, not having 4 people in the car, not driving 80+ mph, not driving at 5000+ feet in elevation, not bucking a gusty wind, etc)

When the other 4 cylinders shut down, the now 4 banger making (hypothetically) 170 hp has to be able to move that 4000+ pound car

without load. That means level ground, not too thin air, not going up a hill, not having too many people in the car, and not constantly pushing down the gas pedal for more speed.)
