Zues Marine (the guy that knows Sam on SL-I) said he will start working on the specs for the light bar on Monday (03/22/10) and it will be in autoCAD format.

So soon we will have the specs for the bar, and someone can get some made.

Ill keep everyone posted.

well got bored today, and tried to make a "light bar" using a rear strut meant for a WRX (the bolt pattens were different but the front one fit, cheaper to get both then just one) i plan on putting 4 lights on it but not too sure where i want to mount it. I brought it to a shop that does bending and they refused to do it so this is what i have to work with.

what would be a good place to put it or is it just a stupid idea?

I like the position on top of the hood. Rally style :)

Re: the FF lights, maybe this is a little late, but the FF significes a free-form projector. The non-FFs aren't as efficient a design, so less light is thrown forward. Both the FF and non-FF 500 are available in both fog and driving patterns, so if you've got a choice definitely go for the FF. Susquehanna Motorsports (http://www.rallylights.com) has a lot of info on the various Hella lights.

It'll be very bright, but if the description is correct and they are in fact fog lights, the beam pattern will be very wide and very shallow (not much distance). For distance, you need a driving beam pattern, or for extreme distance a pencil beam.

For example, these diagrams show lighting from the Hella Rallye 4000, but the top is the pencil beam, the middle is the driving beam, and the bottom is the fog beam:

The useful range of the Pencil is about 5000 Ft. and the useful range of the Euro-beam is 2500 Ft. The Cornering Lamp has a useful range of 1000 Ft. and the Fog a useful range of 600 Ft.

Then again, lots of people refer to any aux light as a "fog light," regardless of its beam pattern, so these might work for you.

Fair enough. I think last time I was at Schucks (or O'Reilly, or whatever they're calling it now), they had a pair of HID driving lights for a decent price. That might be worth checking out.

once i finish the 2nd gen bar, i'll start making the newer gens

if you guys want to make a list for who wants one, it'll help me know how many to make

"whos_that_guy" -respectfully speaking, the places you showed as possibilities to mount the bar wont work( i understand it was just an idea), between the weight of the bar + lights, the methods for securing will most likely fail or not last, to be rigid and stable, the bar will need to be bolted into a sturdy piece of the car (ie bumper beam)
