rB5
Tried searching for this info. but didn't find anything. Exactly what are the differences between the 3rd (BH) and 4th gen. (BP) Outback suspension? Is it just the ride height (length of struts) or are there other major differences in the geometry/design of the components? What i'm trying to get at here is the compatibility of strut assemblies between the two. How different are they really? I've seen speculation about adapting BH suspension but it sounded kind of sketchy and nobody had definitive proof that it works... Thanks! -Branden
Beanboy
Completely different suspension in back. In front, definitely not a 100% fit, not sure if impossible or as you mentioned just issues with length/bolt mounting locations/top hats blahblah. -B http://www.standardshift.com
Guest
^ Wrong. 3rd gen. Legacy/Outback has multilink rear suspension just like the 4th. At least in case of the Legacy lateral links are interchangeable, and likely shocks as well. It's the front, while both generations have strut suspension, the struts are not interchangeable. Beanboy
But I'm from the Athens of Amer--oh my, you're from the Athens of America...and have part number access. Hmpt. I give up with Subaru suspension, the whole interchange/slight change between models has my old man brain too confused to offer advice. -B http://www.standardshift.com
pachilla
the springs/struts of the rear suspension is interchangeable betwen 3rd & 4th Gen legacy. The front springs/struts from 3rd gen will raise 4th gen legacy nose by about 2 inches.
LIMITED
sO if we put 4th Gen front spring/struts on a BE(3rd Gen.) it will drop by 2". Is this possible? Do the parts work without modification?Just curious, since BE options are very limited.

The difference in front ride height is due to different strut mounting positions, not an actual change in strut length or stroke, correct?
