Suspension differences between BP and BH Outback?

Recommended Posts

Tried searching for this info. but didn't find anything.

Exactly what are the differences between the 3rd (BH) and 4th gen. (BP) Outback suspension? Is it just the ride height (length of struts) or are there other major differences in the geometry/design of the components?

What i'm trying to get at here is the compatibility of strut assemblies between the two. How different are they really? I've seen speculation about adapting BH suspension but it sounded kind of sketchy and nobody had definitive proof that it works...

Thanks!

^ Wrong. 3rd gen. Legacy/Outback has multilink rear suspension just like the 4th. At least in case of the Legacy lateral links are interchangeable, and likely shocks as well. It's the front, while both generations have strut suspension, the struts are not interchangeable.

the springs/struts of the rear suspension is interchangeable betwen 3rd & 4th Gen legacy.

The front springs/struts from 3rd gen will raise 4th gen legacy nose by about 2 inches.

The difference in front ride height is due to different strut mounting positions, not an actual change in strut length or stroke, correct?
