I ran it under carpet. It's not hard to find a path.

Thanks for clearing that up! Now, how did y'all wire the sound with the video input to the RCA (info button twice video). I would like to install another iPod cable to that so I can watch movies via the screen, but have no idea how to wire the audio.

I have an apple av cable connected to a rca -> headphone y-connector for the audio. The video is routed through a small hole drilled in the bottom of the cubby then up the inside of the center console and routed behind the radio/hvac.

Damn, all of y'all have figure out how to install the rear view camera. I'm still lost on how y'all hid the cable & actually ran it to the navi from the trunk! ANY help would be nice!

Down the trunk hinge -> power wires then tap into reverse light power and the video cable is run under the trunk carpet -> under back seat -> under door molding down drivers side -> under carpet behind pedals -> up through an opening under the dash.

Yes.

I wired my camera to the reverse lights, too.

Hi,

I know its a old thread, but this looks interesting (the pics and pinouts on page #2)..

Will i find this on a 2007 euro Legacy with navi? (Maybe its the same as the US 2008 model legacy) :)

Here is a picture of the dashboard:

The navi looks the same, but the its really not that hard to pull the navigation out of the dash to make sure.

I removed it, but there wasnt any revers camera input :(

Tried to search on ebay for different screen but it seems impossible to find.. :/

The camera input is triggered by the Reverse switch.

Plug in your sons DVD player and put the car in Reverse. It'll probably work.

Well my while navi system is a retrofit and the reverse wire isn't hooked up yet. Thought the pin 4 signal did that but I guess it needs both huh? When I run the camera, ill also run the reverse signal and hopefully that'll give it all the signals it needs. Hopefully its a (+) signal to the DVD/screen unlike the (-) signal (or something like it) to the molex.

I think Reverse is triggered by CANBUS, but I can't remember.

Either way, the only way to access the video feed from the MOLEX connector, is to be in Reverse.

My setup was a retrofit too.

The camera enable signal (Molex pin 4) just tells the monitor you have a camera. The monitor still needs to know when you shift into reverse to pop up the image.

Both the monitor and DVD unit have pins for the reverse gear signal input.

The monitor's (and DVD unit's) reverse gear input is positive -- it wants the same signal/wire that the car uses to light the lights (+12V when in reverse).

I think the only reason the DVD unit wants the reverse signal is for "dead reckoning" (used in conjunction with the vehicle speed signal and an internal gyro for turn angle/heading).

The monitor uses the CAN bus for the car performance data screens. and for the car's programmable options (keyless entry chirp, room lamp delay time, defogger time, etc.). All of that will work even without the nav DVD unit.

I'll have to review my notes, but I don't recall ever hooking up the reverse wire to my screen harness. Then again, it was like 3 years ago that I did the install.

Here are step-by-step pictures showing how to build a rear camera adapter with better strain relief. Since I used a ready-made ATX adapter, I didn't have to crimp the pins onto the wires myself.

Hoping i can get an answer from this old thred.. I love the pic tutorial thanks a bunch, but where is the switch wired in that you use to go back and forth from the nav to the camera?
