the last cobb shifter

Recommended Posts

For those that want the Cobb shifter, you can still get it. Mode Racing offers a short shifter which is identical in mechanical design to the Cobb version. The only differences are the color and the logo. I got one recently and it's quite nice.

I didn't install the bushings. My spec.b came with the STI short shifter as an option, so I don't know if they replaced the bushings too.

With the Cobb STS engaged in 1st gear, I set the throw length to have about 1cm of room in between the shifter linkage and the metal frame. With the factory knob, the shortest shifter length was tough to put into gear. Raising the shifter length fixed that.

Then when I put in this STI knob, which is longer than stock, and the added height gave it more leverage making it easier to put into gear. I shortened the shifter length to the shortest possible, and it's still easy to put into gear, but has great feel.

On a side note, did anyone else notice a difference in clutch/gear engagement? I found it easier to feel the engagement point, and less gear whine/tranny thrash sound. I'm curious how that could be explained, could the throws have been too long?

awesome. did you install the bushings? I didn't order them. i dont want it to be too stiff? i've heard mixed reviews.
I didn't get the bushings. I wanted to try just the shifter first, see what it was like and maybe get the bushings later on if I decide to. I really don't want a lot of vibrations transmitted into the cabin. For now, I'm pretty happy with it.
