Driver72
No I'm not "impressed" with those, but it was a response to the "wonder" that many had as to it's performance when Landshark posted is controversial high speed road race with one. But it is an impressive acceleration number for a 302 hp 339 tq car that weighs 4048 pounds and has an auto tranny. Albeit a 7 speed auto that probably performs every bit as good as a manual. I am amazed in this day and age that Mercedes has gotten away with this engine virtual unchanged in YEARS...and it still gets great reviews. If they'd punch it out to 5.2 liters and/or go to a DOHC design with it, along with it's 7 speed auto tranny, I think we'd see this over 2 ton car rip to 60 in 5.0 seconds and run with an STI in the 1/4 mile! Yes, the AMG versions of these cars are absolute MONSTERS, especially from a freeway roll, where traction isn't an issue.

Boostjunkie
One of my friends owns a G500... the military grade SUV. He recently test drove the G55 AMG. This is a 6000 lb. tank of a vehicle. The sales guy was cool and told him to disable the traction control, lock all the diffs and brake torque it. He said that the G-wagen burned all 4 tires for as long as he wanted to stay in the throttle. He was both amazed and scared sh!tless at the same time So yah, the AMG V8 is a pretty nice piece of work.
gtguy
That Mercedes verges on the pornographic. I saw one parked on a streetcorner in Paris and about pulled my wife's arm off trying to get over to have a look at it. Cars like that aren't solely about numbers. If you're driving one of those, I don't know that you care a whole lot about what cars are faster. I sure as heck wouldn't. I saw a black one last weekend, freshly waxed and polished. I haven't wanted a car that badly since...well...since ever. I had a G55 AMG pass me like I was parked on the way in to Monaco, two years ago. I was going about 200 kph, and saw what looked like a black house gaining on me like it was a UFO or something. I completed my pass, got out of the lane, and that thing came smoking past. Enormous tires, full limousine tint, and of course, Monaco plates. Kevin
