FreeFlow
Looking at a 1997 Subaru Legacy 2.5 GT wagon later today. Has 107k and an overheating issue... owner says he bought it for $1700 and after about a 3 weeks he started having over-heating issues. He had a mechanic change the radiator a hose and a thermostat... but still over heated. Now he says he had another mechanic look at it and a coolant hose clamp was busting through a hose and the thermostat was installed incorrectly allowing coolant to leak out. My question is, is it normal for the head gaskets to go at 107k? Is this car worth $1300 in decent shape? What else should I check for? Thanks, looking forward to joining the Subaru community, this will be my second!

574-240sx
Might be worth it to take it to a mechanic so they can test for a blown headgasket.
wrxya33
Those are the tell tale signs of a blown head gasket. But regardless thats a good deal. i just payed 2400 for a 98 lgt wagon with 165 k and a rebuilt motor. Cars amazing and drives perfect. Id say buy it only if you plan on dumping another 1000 into it to get it drivable. But after that itll be worth it
kaz98gt
let us know what you end up doing, +1 on a mech looking for a blown head gasket just to be absolutely sure of any issues 1300 is a steal if it's in good shape though!
