almondcookie Posted December 21, 2009 Posted December 21, 2009 Hey all, Just moved down to Woodbridge. I was wondering what shops are recommended down here to do transmission work. I need a clutch and flywheel replaced. Thanks all.

almondcookie Posted December 21, 2009 Author Posted December 21, 2009 sorry? not quite sure what you mean by that. it's definitely more lively than i used to live. all i got to stare at were corn fields.
Rimfaxe Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 Yep, hard to find a good speed shop that really knows subies in VA. PA was much better IMO. I'll most likely have to do a transmission and diff swap sometime next year and its a real PIA. Also... here's my 'Welcome to VA' gift bag: Whatever you do, don't (get caught) drive(ing) more than 80 mph in VA = Reckless Driving regardless of the posted limit. The police/judges up there in NOVA are brutal. If you ever run into any trouble, this guy is great: http://www.bobbattlelaw.com/ (I said great, not cheap though...)
almondcookie Posted December 22, 2009 Author Posted December 22, 2009 I was near the MD border so there were a lot of shops within driving distance - agile automotive when they were on york road, etc. I know a bunch of shop folks down Route40 (commercial and privately owned) that helped me with my previous cars. Thanks. I've been noticing that. The police near potomac mills and near the mixing bowl/springfield area don't mess around hiding around all sorts of sound walls and medians. VA police also use a lot of other chevy vehicles like suburbans and sedans that aren't blue or black... some are silver and beige and other normal colors. Those sneaky bastards.
LegacyGTBiggie Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 I would suggest DPS in Rockville. Not too far from hoodbridge.... And they do great work. You also have Adrewtech but they tend to run more money. Call DPS and tell them Josh sent ya. Ill call them and let them know if you want to go there. http://www.dpstuning.com/ Address: 8033-C Snouffer School Road Gaithersburg, MD 20879 Telephone: 301.977.5601 - Main
blackfang Posted December 23, 2009 Posted December 23, 2009 sorry? not quite sure what you mean by that. it's definitely more lively than i used to live. all i got to stare at were corn fields. It was a joke. Welcome to the nazi state. You owe us taxes on pretty much everything you own every year regardless if you already paid them. Do not get caught going over 80 mph on a highway as stated. Do not modify your car because then it is technically illegal. Watch out for the cops because they will give you a ticket for a hood scoop and loud exhaust because the law is not written and open for interpretation. Have fun. J.R. Posted December 23, 2009 Posted December 23, 2009 Mach V in Sterling, VA and Andrewtech in Gaithersburg, Md are both Subie shops, within 45 min of Woodbridge.
almondcookie Posted December 23, 2009 Author Posted December 23, 2009 Interestingly enough, I bumped into a guy in Springfield that works for Goodwrench/Sears/whatever and does side work if anyone's interested. He's got an old school 96 subie. My cousin's got a wrx and we got to talking... My buddy gave up the east coast life and moved to the west coast. He said he'd live in Va over Ca any day. We he moved, they wouldn't even inspect his car because it was modded with a brand new shiny 2009 motor so he's driving the same car except it has an APC park bench on the back and all the panels are different colors and the engine looks like it's about to give up... BUT it's all stock and that's what matters. And on that day ... gas was 4.40-something for reg. ouch. I guess my car's pretty stealth... i've been followed by a couple cops. maybe because i still have my PA tags they're leaving me alone for now? Thanks for the suggestions.
bluesuby Posted December 23, 2009 Posted December 23, 2009 You better switch to Virginia tags soon. Every Spring when the personal property taxes are due (on cars) the cops pull over out-of-staters or wait for them on expressway exits to determine if they are evading taxes. You will also need to master the technique of immediately getting into the left lane and driving 10 mph below the posted limit.
Mach V Dan Posted December 24, 2009 Posted December 24, 2009 Hooray for wagons! I had one before my STI... http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y249/danhurwitz/Legacy/Wing/Legacysideview.jpg Give a call if there's anything you need. Not that I'm trying to drum up work, but I would not trust my Subaru maintenance to a random "side work" person. There's too much on these cars that are particular to these cars. If you don't know exactly what you're doing, there can be very serious consequences. Just ask one of our customers who blew up his timing belt recently doing it at home... --Dan Mach V FastWRX.com

Mach V Dan Posted December 29, 2009 Posted December 29, 2009 Dunno why you sold it in the first place... such sex!!! Thanks.
