RangerMan
I was thinking about my immediate family and close friends' cars and was wondering how they would do in an all out head to head competetion. Obviously this is just academic but what order would you guys put these cars in? (assume an auto unless otherwise noted) My cars: 2005 Legacy GT (2.5L Turbo, 5spd) 2002 Mustang (3.8L, 5spd) 2002 Ranger (2.3L, 5spd) My family and friends cars: 2004 Toyota Tacoma (the little 4 cylinder, auto) 2003 Cavalier (5spd) 2004 Honda Accord (4 cylinder, auto) 1988 Olds Delta 98 (FWD, 3800) 1989 Corvette (L98, A4) 2001 Impala (3.4L) 2005 Focus (2.3L, 5spd) 1997 Ranger (2.3L) 2003 Eclipse GT (3.0L, 5spd) 2002 Mustang GT (4.6L. 5spd) Okay...what's the order fastest to slowest? D-2.5-GT
1. 2005 Legacy GT (2.5L Turbo, 5spd) 2. 2002 Mustang GT (4.6L. 5spd) 3. 2002 Mustang (3.8L, 5spd) 4. 1989 Corvette (L98, A4) 5. 2003 Eclipse GT (3.0L, 5spd) 6. 2001 Impala (3.4L) 7. 2005 Focus (2.3L, 5spd) 8. 2003 Cavalier (5spd) 9. 2004 Honda Accord (4 cylinder, auto) 10 2002 Ranger (2.3L, 5spd) 11. 2004 Toyota Tacoma (the little 4 cylinder, auto) 12. 1997 Ranger (2.3L) 13. 1988 Olds Delta 98 (FWD, 3800) Hmmm...not sure about #'s 4, 5, and 6. Or how those trucks might compare. Sometimes they can be quick. It also depends on the situation. From a stop, the LGT should certainly be on top. The mustang GT should be able to keep up on the highway though.
scubie02
don't worry, your legacy is the fastest of that group, with the GT mustang second. The Ranger's would be dogs--the old olds delta would almost certainly be faster. I have a 3.0 Ranger (5 sp) as a second vehicle for hauling things and its still a dog. John M
2005 Legacy GT (2.5L Turbo, 5spd) 2002 Mustang GT (4.6L. 5spd) 1989 Corvette (L98, A4) 2003 Eclipse GT (3.0L, 5spd) 2002 Mustang (3.8L, 5spd) 2001 Impala (3.4L) 1988 Olds Delta 98 (FWD, 3800) The rest are really too close to tell. They all fall into the 17+ sec 1/4 mile area. If I had to predict it though: 2004 Toyota Tacoma (the little 4 cylinder, auto) 2003 Cavalier (5spd) 2005 Focus (2.3L, 5spd) 2004 Honda Accord (4 cylinder, auto) 2002 Ranger (2.3L, 5spd) 1997 Ranger (2.3L) The 4cyl Rangers have to be the slowest vehicles I've ever driven. Ever. Seriously.
RangerMan
Yeah, I am upgrading from the 2002 Ranger to the 2005 Legacy. The Ranger is a dog and I can't even imagine how slow the 1997 Ranger (with the old engine and automatic). I think there are a lot of too close to call races... Suprised the L98 didn't get a higher ranking. It is fast, but I think the LGT has about the same pull. My father-in-law won't believe it when I take the family out in the new LGT and it feels like we are in his 'vette Being a V6 Mustang owner I can attest to the Mustang GT owners putting a little too much faith in having a V8. Beanboy
Umm, that Focus can run low 16s/high, high 15s at 85-87 mph. Not fast mind you, but a step above the others in the class. 1/4 mile, sec @ mph 16.18 @ 85.95 15.95, 16.36, 16.18, 15.94... -B -B http://www.standardshift.com

Here's my prediction with the slower models: 2005 Focus (2.3L, 5spd) 2004 Honda Accord (4 cylinder, auto) 2003 Cavalier (5spd) 2004 Toyota Tacoma (the little 4 cylinder, auto) 2002 Ranger (2.3L, 5spd) 1997 Ranger (2.3L)
SWortham
I used to try and guesstimate which cars would be faster. It can be hard when you can't find acceleration figures. Then I wrote this: www.gldomain.com/accelerationcalc
RangerMan
You took all the fun out of it! j/k That is a pretty nice little calculator!
Driver72
The LGT and 02 Mustang GT manual would be a dead heat to about 90 mph or so, then the MGT would begin to pull away.. They run pretty quick at a track and the mags test them in mid 5's to 60 with 14.0 @ 99-100 mph 1/4's The 02 Mustang 3.8 V6 5 spd is in NO WAY faster than the 89 Corvette or the 02 Eclipse. The 05 Focus 2.3 with a manual will waste the Impala 3.4 liter. The slowest...it's a toss up between Tacoma 4 banger auto 88 Olds Delta Ford Ranger 2.3 liter. If the Olds is running good, I'd give it the edge though.
Nsaglibene
What would that list look like if the LGT was 5EAT, with a power brake launch? What about the 2001 eclipse GT?
