I'm gonna get a hell of speeding ticket soon...

It feels SO GOOD to pass cars on two lane highways. If there's 2 cars to be passed I'm hitting 90-100 mph by the time I swing back into the lane. Love it. Still stock, no mods except mufflers and air filter.

One of these days there's going to be a patrol car in the wrong place. My Escort 8500 is great, but with instant-on radar they're gonna nab me one of these days.

Consider this as a warning to myself. A ticket for 90-100 would be a real bummer. Probably cost $300 and loss of my drivers license for a year.

The mid-range passing power in 4th gear on the GT is the strongest I've felt since my 435hp '67 'Vette in 1967 that did 117 in the quarter. Stock. And my Triumph Trophy 900 cycle and Honda CB500 Turbo had that same kind of thrust.

"The Gods protect those that go fast...", or something like that.

Absolutely a rush. This car brings out the kamikaze in me - 37 y/o, married, two kids, professional. It is such a blast to pass cars on two lane roads - I personally prefer to start of in third and really wring it out before hitting fourth - the problem is I just want to keep pushing in fourth too! That pull is amazing - reminds me of my old '92 SAAB 9000 Turbo with 244ft lbs of torque.

I have toyed with a Stage I upgrade but really wonder if I need it - I mean the risk of a ticket is already very real and I worry about anotgher 40hp and 50 ft. lbs of torque. Power corrupts BUT absolute power corrupts ABSOLUTELY!

Cheers.

Yeah, I drove 2 hours down a two lane road in Vt yesterday. It was the first time since the break in period was over. Wow, can it pass in fourth gear. I was going to only pass one car and then wait to pass the other 3. By the time I hit the gas I was ahead of the first car and I ended up passing all 4 cars with no problem....... I looked down and I was going 105. Damn, I hope I dont' get a ticket either. It is MUCH too easy to go fast without even trying. I fear explaining to an officer that the car is just too fast............

that's why i bought the 3.0r (detuned)

chuckling

Car is dayam fast. Went rallying this weekend and it was leaving WRXs, even stage 2's waaay waaay back. Alot of the Subaru owners were asking me what mods I had done to to the car to make it so fast. Just a swaybar so far says I...wow! says them.

I actually wrote a buddy of mine who is thinking about a new car and told him about the pull from my LGT 5MT wagon - it really is kind of shocking. When I was a kid and reading Road&Track with stars in my eyes, 0-60 times of 5.6 were for Porsches - to have that kind of acceleration in a family station wagon with AWD all for under $25K just amazes me. I would put up with a lot of idiosyncrosies and quirks for the pure enjoyment of the mad rush toward redline and the serious push into the seat!!

We also have a '93 Legacy AWD Turbo 5MT that we've owned since new. It has 130K on the odo and has been bulletproof - a fun car for the wilds of Western Maine!

Have fun and don't get caught!

go test drivin' man..that's what I did...Acura TSX, Infiniti G35 6 sp rwd and the auto awd, mazda3, mazda6, volvo s40, vw GTI, nissan altima-se-R--the legacy GT kills them all...it is an amazing machine..just got mine Friday..and the break in period is driving me crazy.

My undersatnding is that it 'remaps' the car's ECU adjusting air/fuel mixture, ingnition timing, boost pressure, etc...to allow for broader, higher horsepower and torque peaks as well as improved driveability. I am a little unclear as to the details and how much technical expertise one needs to have to install. The other concern I believ has to do with voiding the factory warranty in the event that something goes awry - could be an expensive proposition in a brand new car! Several buddies of mine who have modified their SAAB's with similar rempapping of their ECU's have waited until the car was out of the factory warranty before installing - just in case!

The stock car has so much power, it really is hard to fathom such a significant increase in horsepower and torque. I already have to watch out for speed traps and check my speed when I pass other cars to keep it under 100mph - can't imagine MORE power.

Very easy ;)

It will void your warranty if you are honest.

The passing power is incredible, but I wish something could be done about the "off the line" acceleration. If you start at over 2000rpm and slip it a little you get clutch stink. At 2500rpm+ I REALLY start to stink. I can't give full throttle until the clutch is fully out. And that's too late.

On a Solo2 it going to cost 2 seconds every time you leave the start line.

If only I could stick with even the fairly quick cars leaving a red light it would be a perfect car. damn.

But I still love it.

More is better. I have AP on the 93 Octane stage 1 map with a manual boost controller, running at 15.5psi with spikes to 18psi. 18HP per psi. stock psi is 13. This wagon is fun in first and second gear. Will almost break the tires loss on wet pavement from a roll on in 1st, 18psi hits nice and hard.

305,600miles 5/2012 ej257 short block, 8/2011 installed VF52 turbo, @20.8psi, 280whp, 300ftlbs. (SOLD).  CHECK your oil, these cars use it.

soon it wil be..

your car does 0-60 in 4.29384746725626674743 seconds!

my can do 0-60 in 4.29384746725626674742 seconds!

Sounds like you enjoy doing damage to your car. I never go to full throttle until the clutch is fully engaged. yes it may cost some time, but you are not abusing your car. The car is plenty of quick even without doing a full throttle launch..... I almost never get clutch stink.......................

Then you drive like my wife. Never shifts at over 2500. Starts from a stop at 15-2000. You obviously do not Solo2. Probably have no idea what is involved.

In the 35+ new performance cars (all stick shift) I've owned in the past 50 years I've never replaced a clutch. Many had over 100,000 miles. This is my 4th Subaru. Two of them had a 100,000 with no warranty work required.

Gets some experience before you jump in and criticize people with far more experience than yourself, sonny.

Funny........ but my car doesn't stink. I frequently rev my engine to red line. I love this car. I dont' drive like a grandma...... If you think you should be able to do full throttle on launch, while the clutch isn't fully engaged, then you need some education man. Do you know how a clutch works? Do you realize you are burning your clutch? So you think the stinky clutch is some kind of design flaw... nothing to do with your driving. Then why doesn't it do it when driving normal??? By the way, you are talking to an engineer with his masters degree........ Be careful who you call sonny next time.

Very funny..... you gave me a good laugh thanks. Everyone knows that Industrial engineering is the biggest joke..... It is by far the easiest of all engineering. Nice try though. Here is the ranking on engineering from most difficult to easy as hell.

1. Chemical engineering

2. Electrical engineering

3. Mechanical engineering

4. Civil engineering.

5. Industrial engineering

The fact that your clutch can last 100k miles with the abuse you put it through, shows good engineering on the part of the manufacturer. I know a few people that have 300k on their clutches and they drive in a normal fashion.

Thanks for all the entertainment though. You are an interesting person. I recommend you buy an SUV (with an AUTOMATIC).
