Affects of higher than OEM inflation on winter traction?

I've been running 40F/38R on my Pilot Sport A/S Plus tires since buying them last May, and I'm wondering if the higher inflation will be a "negative" once the white stuff falls?

I know the higher inflation slightly reduces the size of the tire's contact patch, but I'm not sure if there will be any "negatives" as a result.

Thoughts/experience?

With higher rated tires, such as the Pilot Sports, sidewall stiffness becomes a factor in the contact patch, at least for pressurized tires. By this, I mean that the reduction of the patch with the higher pressures you're using won't be as much as it would with, say, Q-rated snow tires.

So I think this is likely to be highly tire-dependent. Wait until it snows, and do the experiment in an empty parking lot: try out your pressures, then let some air out and see how the handling changes. HPH

^ That's my opinion as well.
