Prova Steering Wheel?

i dont like the flat bottom, imo the LGT is a classy car not "race" style but to each his own.

i want to get mine done this spring (tax season) by these guys http://www.jpmcoachworks.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=43_54&products_id=125

i really like how they come out and its a little cheaper, i want to have my leather seats reupholstered like the spec b style so it should match up pretty nice.

Seems like they engineer the Prova unit to use all of the front/back trim so if you're wheel doesn't have the "buttons" then non-buttoned front trim would extend over that area. Would like to see some confirmation though.

Camber - really like that DADM JDM unit.

The Prova unit is made by DAMD designed for Prova, and what he said about the trim, you reuse all the stock parts on the existing wheel

I looked at this option too and one of the main deciding factors was that the Prova/DAMD wheel's are smaller in diameter and thicker. Outer diameter is 358mm vs. stock 375mm. This makes a huge difference in response and feel, I love it.

I like the idea of a smaller wheel, but even the stock wheel partially obscures view of the gauge cluster for me, specifically the turn signal indicators. I guess a smaller wheel would complete block the view. Noone finds that an issue?

I don't know about the '08+ years, but the older models, such as the '05, for those without the steering wheel controls, the rim of the steering wheel is contiguous with the areas of the two horizontal spokes which would otherwise have housed audio/SportShift controls.

^ That's the 2.5i, but the wheel's overall design is the same.

And here's a direct confirmation:

The following image shows that of an '05 with the steering wheel controls in-place:

Those of us without those controls will thus have "voids," if no additional trim pieces are included.....

I almost went std style then opted for the D style.

I should have mine in another week or so. If it blocks the gauges enough to bother me then it will also be up for sale. We'll see...

I originally ordered the D Style because the Standard style was out of stock, and after searching and talking to a few others about it, I switched back to the standard within the day. Luckily Rallysport Direct had found one more standard shape in stock when I called back the second time. Thanks again for going into the warehouse while I was on the phone to double check that it was in stock and not a computer glitch!!!

^ Well, that's a good excuse to install the audio controls (available separately). I could not live without them.

^ True, true - but I like an uncluttered steering wheel.

Well, maybe except for that of an F1 car's. :p

On the other hand, I definitely do find a lot of good use of the audio controls in my wife's '09 FXT.

I'm also thinking that I could easily move the column up a tad to make up for the smaller wheel.

This wheel, Magden M1b (soon), and WC Lathwerks shift knob... :D

So who is the audio guru as that will be my last mod to tackle and I don't know crap.

  • 2 months later...
Love the feel of the alcantara, through 4 months of daily driving it shows no wear at all. Still looks like a brand new wheel. I'll get pics later today when I get the car back from andrewtech, heading up to agile tomorrow for a new tune with hill

Love the wheel, feels great and has a classy look to boot.

Now if I had any red going on in the interior other than the dash I'd have gone with the same shape in alcantara.

No matter shich way you go for about $2-300 later on it can be expertly recovered.

So Drew...how do you like the smaller wheel and "D" shape. Do you find the "spec b" controls in the way on the wheel? Do you wish you had gotten alcantra?

Ed: How do you like the alcantra?
