GrampsWRX
I have been thinking of upgrading my brakes to brembos. Is there anything wrong with just upgrading the fronts? I don't track or autocross. I had an sti and I just want more pedal firmness and emergency stopping power. And of course, they look awesome. Opinions? theflystyle
ive been thinking about the wilwood front set: http://www.liteswap.com/merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=L&Product_Code=LGTPBK cheaper alternative with cheaper pads
PhilT
Brembos on the front and stockers on the rear = bad brake balance. Double Award Winning Legacy GT Wagon
adidasoutback
Get SS brake lines and higher temp fluid, that will help. I have brembos on my Merc and they still have blah pedal feel but SS brake lines fixed that and C350 Sports come with brembos stock, so even brembos can have a blah feel. Claw
^ on the stock calipers?
JSK05LGT
Yes sir, on the stock calipers. Dont get me wrong, I love my Brembo setup, but for a street driven LGT, there really is no need for the change. If you plan to AutoX or run on a Track I would recommend the Brembos, otherwise, get a grippy set of pads, stailness lines for the feel and the fluid for good measure and I think you will be happy. dr. pepper
Hawk HPS pads, Goodridge SS lines, and DBA slotted rotors= perfect street setup, I love the pedal feel, the SS lines make a night and day difference, anything above my setup is completely unnecessary on the street, IMO. schwinn
As others have said, start with better pads first... it makes for a huge difference. SS lines might be another improvement, though I don't seem to notice/need it on my car. From what I've read, there is a big variability in expectations or pedal-performance from people's cars... but the bottom line is that you should not need a bigger caliper or rotor set... Chocoholic005
ive been thinking about the wilwood front set: http://www.liteswap.com/merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=L&Product_Code=LGTPBK cheaper alternative with cheaper pads This would be a great alternative (especially since they sell on ebay for about half that price) but they don't make a rear set to my knowledge, which is disappointing. HarryN
http://www.importimageracing.com/p/Stoptech-LGT-332mm-4-wheel-Big-Brake-Kit.html http://www.importimageracing.com/mm5/graphics/00000001/BBK.jpg This set comes with front AND rear big brakes, stainless steel lines, and rotors. This bolts right up. I consider Stoptechs better in quality versus Brembo, but to each their own as they say. And for big brake kits, especially Brembos, get that wallet ready. They are costly! Claw
Thanks JSK - I've got HPS's on order already. Any word about their bite in colder weather? I'm talking -20C or so...
JSK05LGT
HPS is a good pad, but in -20C, I have no clue, im on the East Coast in the states, never experienced that kind of temp...
kinder
ive been thinking about the wilwood front set: http://www.liteswap.com/merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=L&Product_Code=LGTPBK cheaper alternative with cheaper pads I was looking into these as well as I had good luck with them in the past... after reading a bunch of reviews by users on non Suby forums general consensus seemed to be that they were more a track brake and not suited for daily driving. Not sure how that would make a diff but it had people selling them. NASIOC has a brembo thread where they rank our legacy 2 pots just below Brembo and better than WRX 4pots. if that helps.
