RumbleRumble
I just ordered one for 110$ I noticed bad fuel mileage, then the gas smell on start up, running rich and then I got a po440 code. Last time I had that it was for a ripped fuel hose after the filter. I checked for visible leaks everywhere and found none. I'm probably going to grab a new valve too and some hose to replace all the hard to reach hoses.
warfire
Hey - late to the party, just wondering if anyone know if a 1st gen Legacy (wagon) is any different. I got a 1994 Wagon and it's been leaking fuel at the lowest point on the filler tube. Got a new pipe/neck ($200 f$%#@ dollars here in the People's Republic of Canada)... Anyway, going to attempt the replacement. Any tips always welcomed. Thx!
OUBob
Does the Rockauto (or any other aftermarket supplier) come with the ckeck valve thingy (whatever the box is with the 2 hoses going to it, bolted on near the "fill" end of the neck? Farco
Nope. All you get is the filler pipe. The fuel port plate at the top is a separate part. There is also another check valve at the bottom of the filler neck which needs swapped over to the new neck.
OUBob
That's barfy. Puts a new aftermarket price at around $140. Found a nice looking one on Ebay for $40 shipped, with every piece on it.
OUBob
Just got this thing all buttoned up, the P0440 light still refuses to go away. Anyone run into other issues associated with a rusted out filler neck? Thanks! Bob
SubaruGal
I replaced my filler neck today. $73 off of eBay. It was a huge pain to remove. The flat head screwdriver and PB Blaster under the fuel tank rubber hose worked well. The other smaller hoses were even bigger pains to get off. It was like they were fused on for life. It took me five hours to do the job having to spray and wait, then spray more and wait. Pretty much the hardest repair I've done on this car - but way cheaper than a mechanic. I'm happy I gave it a go. I shot a couple pics that might be helpful for anyone looking to tackle this. The dirt catcher... fuel neck shield. This is how much dirt was in it at first. After was all said and done, there was probably 3 cups worth. Towards the top down to the middle of the filler neck. You can see some of the hoses and tubes. A bracket about half way down the filler neck holding it in place. Some of the tubes/hoses also attach to it. The end of the filler neck going into the rubber hose, that leads to the fuel tank. Under side of the car looking up. This is a bracket one of the Tubes is attach to. The old filler neck next to the new one.
