PCvillain Posted November 4, 2009 Share Posted November 4, 2009 Anyone else have this problem. Service manager said this happens sometimes with Subarus. The drivers side rear door won't open from either handle. Don't feel anything at all when pulling handle so I'm thinking something broke free. How to access door panel and replace the mechanism? PCvillain Posted April 26, 2010 Author Share Posted April 26, 2010 If you need to do this, it requires a lot of hard pulling and prying. I finally have to break the door panel to get the door open. Broke a few connection points. Turns out a sliding metal actuator [top red] needed another metal actuator pin [bottom red] engaged but the second pin did not always come back in place. Stealership wants $600 or so to do the job that includes a new lock actuator and door handle and not the broken stuff. Might not be too bad considering but budgets are tight.
