N00b needs some new tires.

Hi guys, my first request post!

The last person that owned my car didn't rotate the tires enough, and now I've got a noisy bumping sound. I had them rotated and X'ed, but this only made it a little better. I'm looking for some new tires. My primary concern is noise. I want the quietest tires I can get, I know these Subaru's don't have nearly as much sound-proofing as my old Buick.

Living in Florida, I plan to never drive in snow. The most I have to worry about is some heavy rain. I looked around tirerack.com, but I'm not sure if they're leading me in the right direction as far as quietness.

Price is... meh.... ~$100 or so. I'm flexible. I have the stock Limited rims, and the tires I have now seem almost too thin. Something a bit thicker would be cool. I'll try and get the make and model posted here tomorrow if needed.

I did not hear any of them over the patented hogzawst system of our car (see http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php?t=35764&highlight=hogmeat)......

The kidding aside I've really not heard any of them so I can't tell you which is "quieter"......By the way, pushing 68k miles on the clock......I'm certain more knowledgable members can/will chime in on your thread in due time......

So that's two votes so far for the Kumho ASX. Is the Kumho SPT worth the extra $6? What is the best place to buy them from, Tire Rack? How does shopping from Tire Rack work? Is there a shipping cost for tires? I've only bought tires once, from a local mechanic shop.

If you want a Summer only, very smooth and quiet tire for a good price, find a Vredestein dealer. The Ultrac Sessanta is an amazing tire. Not to mention the coolest tread design on earth. I am in NY, but I use these in the summer. Do a search. You will find nothing but raves.

They look expensive, and appear to only be sold through a dealer in NJ.

If you want summer tires buy Hankook Ventus V12 Evo K110 (there might be some logic behind this name but I am not aware of it ;-).

Tire rack has it for $90.00 + S&H in 225/45R17 which is good size for OE wheels. There is $50.00 mail-in rebate for them too.

Check discount tire for their pricing too.

If you want to buy locally you can always use Internet pricing as bargaining tool.

Here you go right now on e-bay......Item # 380166469729 and the lister is tire rack. So it's 376$ + 60$ ups ground for total 436$ If nothing else you can use this price for comparison or even leverage to buy from a seller local to you......Of course, in this instance you also have to factor in mounting and balancing of the tires......

Thanks bencob! You gave me a great idea. I have about 18% in eBay coupons which I didn't know what to do with. The size you linked to is different than mine, 205 vs. 215. Which sizes should I consider? I see another seller has 215/50/17. Which sizes will work for me, with the OEM Limited rims?

You're quite welcome, the size I linked is 205/50/17 because that is what I use on our leggy......As long as you get 17 inch tires you an choose sidewall height and aspect ratio yourself......Like JonLGT wrote, you can use 225/45/17 which has 20mm taller sidewall......The oem size for your car will be on the sticker on your door jamb......Go at it......
