tarmacstage
Was yours good/bad/indifferent? Any change in sound, or performance? (They claim 1-4 hp) How about mileage? Bottom line: Do you prefer it to the OEM air filter? CJ '03 Legacy OB Limited, stock
KartRacerBoy
Stage 2/panel filter. Don't do it for power. The thing lasts for freakin' ever. Wash and go. Save $$$. That's why I did it. And even if it gives you a few hp, you'll never feel it. Plus you get STICKERS!!!!!!
schwinn
I had a K&N (panel filter) at one point on a previous car. Didn't do anything for performance there either. Then I read the following two articles: http://mkiv.com/techarticles/filters_test/2/ http://duramax-diesel.com/spicer/index.htm With results like those, I'll stick to stock/paper filters, thanks. pattypat
I've had a KN panel for over a year with no issues. Plus you get a whooshing sound if you remove your Silencer too. Almost sound like yoou have a BOV. I don't think I got any stickers with mine though.
GTStage2
I bought my '05 Gt wagon with a K&N Typhoon already installed. I have been working on cars my whole life and have realized air intakes do not provide many gains unless you are doing other work to the engine. I like the typhoon you can really hear the air being sucked in, but as far as gains your not going to see much no matter what intake you go with. I have re-mapped using the Cobb Access port, those guys are great over there, and I installed a Cobb down pipe I noticed a significant increase in the amount of air the typhoon sucks in. I hope this helps.
nickb98c
I installed a panel filter on mine, and I seem to notice a slight increase in bottom end. maybe its just me. Plus it added a nice whooshing air sounds when you step on the throttle. I would recommend the panel filter.
papa g
I noticed an increase in mileage when I put mine in. Could have been the old filter was so bad that any new one would have helped. I like the fact that you can clean it and put it back in. And I got stickers. BE committed to DO what it takes to HAVE more of what you want in your life!!! Heytiggr
I have had a Typhoon in my 05 wagon for nearly two years. Like others have said, no noticeable (seat of pants) power increase, the sound is cool (my daughter totally loves it - cool points for Dad), and I did see my mileage get better by 1 or 2 MPG. Also, customer service from K&N has been FANTASTIC. They replaced two small parts (which I messed up my own fault) with no questions or hesitation. They say it has a million mile warranty and they stand behind it!

dabbdc
http://mkiv.com/techarticles/filters_test/2/ - the research cited in the article was done in 1999. Presumably the filter materials have changed since then somewhat. No newer research? I am about to drop in my K&N before a Dynotune. Cobb is against it w their AP. I am doing a custom opensource tune. the stickers don't do it for me
Mega Users LieutenantDan Posted March 23, 2010 Mega Users Share Posted March 23, 2010 I got rid of my K&N. I'd rather have better filtering than barely more airflow
