Kipper
My 93 subaru has 274 K and I bought the thing when it had 122 K and I am finally getting around to doing the waterpump. I got all six bolts out of the waterpump and I cant get the thing out. Should I try waking it with a hammer from under the car?
Bdubs
It's probably just held in by the seal. Don't whack it directly with a hammer, use a block of wood and just tap it. It really shouldn't take all that much to dislodge it.
Platinum_Racing
If you're absolutely, 100% sure everything holding it in has been removed, whack it with a hammer until the cows come home. You're replacing it anyway, and who cares what it looks like when you return it for the core charge. Half the time the people at the parts stores just pick up the box to see if there's really a part in there. If they do open it up, they won't care if you hit it with a hammer. Kipper
I was able to get the water pump out. Now....when I went to put the 6 10mm bolts which hold the pump on, I sheared one of the top ones off so part of the bolt is holding the pump on...Can I manage to deal with just 5 bolts??? Will it leak with just 5 bolts?
Jonathan
You need to remove the broken bolt. Purchase an extractor set, and drill a small hole into the broken bolt, and use the extractor bit to remove the broken bolt. It might be a very good time to replace all your old bolts with shiny new bolts that are rated high enough that you don't have to worry about them breaking.
