Gbrown
Hello All, I've got a 95 Legacy 2.2litre with 175,000miles. I've been told that the Timing Belts should be changed every 4years or 40,000 miles, whichever comes first. I've got 7years and 38,000 miles. Haynes manual says 60,000 or 48months. What's the opinion of this board? Also is the 2.2litre engine a non-interference engine? Thanks in advance. Gbrown
Bdubs
The 2.2 is non interference. The only problem you'd have when that thing snaps is taking the chance it'll die on a 6 lane highway, and have to pull it off the road. I hate to admit this, but I have run a 2.2 timing belt for 180k miles. The car was driven hard too. The front seal went and soaked the belt in oil, and that's the only reason I changed it. Not recommended. But, If you are going on 7 years, it's probably a good time to replace it. Just for peace of mind. The rubber certainly degrades over the years. Platinum_Racing
I'd be confident enough to go 100K. That's when mine was changed. I still got 45K to go before I'll have to do it again. Every 40K is a waste of time and money, precious, precious money. http://www.endwrench.com/pdf/engine/FtCamBeltReplaceW01.pdf Here's the DIY guide.
