Track preparation

Just wanted to be a picture whore and post a pic of my suspension/brakes for now, before I go to the track. Sad, because this car was supposed to not be fun to drive. :)

I guess I got a red theme going on here.

Will think about those! :)

So far so good, even on the street. Last time out at the track, I had OEM pads and those faded to a scary degree. This should at least be better than that.

If I have time next week, I'm going to try to make brake ducts out of my blank foglight holes.

OEM pads which are made by Hitachi must be a nightmare on the track,

Go with a nice track pad from carbotech and just put them on for the track day and go back to your street pads after the event.

I think the 2.5i should be a good track car since ya can prob be flat out a lot more then in the more powerful GT. I like a car with less power as they are easier to drive harder.

MR2 is far lighter than the LGT, you'll need better pads than that. What tires are you running?

Alignment specs are largely a function of tire requirements. If you're not running R compound DOT race tires, it doesn't matter - you will be slow. If you're running DOT race tires (like BFG G-force R1s or Toyo 888s) go with the manufacturer's recommendations - usually something like 0 toe, -2.5 camber front, -1.5 camber rear). Of course, to attain these numbers, you will need coilovers (or camber plates) in front, and adjustable lower control arms in the rear. Any other questions?

My Legacy is not going to get coilovers in the forseeable future. Just mild suspension mods to scratch the tracking itch while I get my MR2 swap done. The Legacy was supposed to be the comfortable cruiser car.

How big of a difference does race compound tires make? I hear they cut a huge chunk off lap times. If the MR2 ever gets done soon enough, I'm going to have to find a set of bigger rims and better rubber to handle the power it'll be putting down.

Wow, a thicker RSB makes a huge difference. Even paired with the stock FSB, it is awesome. No oversteer, just grip grip grip. The Bilsteins and Rallitek springs finally have something to do.

The car thinks something is up though, I get the VDC light coming on on turns now where I didn't before. A quick push on the VDC off fixed that quickly. I don't know why the ECU is so worried, it's so planted in the turns!

Race tires are fun but get pricey since they only last a season if you do a lot of events. I got 2.5 seasons out of my last set of street tires.. Depends on how serious you want to drive and your skill level, imo. Race tires can be less forgiving

I may just look into some high end street tires. Or just get another set of wheels...

Please stop me now, do not want to do anymore to the Legacy for now.

Track day done.

Tires = crap.

Brakes = crap, although I think it was cause I still had OEM fluid in there. Should have used the ATE blue I had in the garage.

Still was loads of fun.

Especially since you're tracking the car, I'd strongly suggest getting some reinforcements for the rear sway mounts - you may have noticed when you were doing the install that they're a little weak...they've been known to bend or even break under the stress of a stiffer bar!

AVO, Cobb, Perrin all make various reinforcements. Here's a side view of my Cobb bracket (I believe Perrin is basically the same design, while AVO is a bit different):

Love the video! Way to go 2.5i :) Cheers!

sorry...this forum practically blows goat nuts so im not always on here.

What was you're best time? From what I could see, it was a 1:40 right?? Wish I coulda been out there. It's killing me not being able to run my car.

Fastest was a 1:39.065. I'm happy with that, as I ran a 1:42 last time out there, stock. Only changes are the AVO 20mm and the spec.B Bilsteins/Ralliteks.

Still, I just barely matched my stock MR2's time. I can't wait to finish my V6 swap.

It's killing me to track my Legacy. I feel bad for the car, it's supposed to be my comfy car. It was really hot out there, I was running with the heater on, and the temp gauge was still reading slightly above half. My last session, I got back and propped the hood so it could cool down, and coolant had come out the overflow ALL OVER my engine bay. Not cool.
