Warranty Question: GrimmSpeed Up Pipe

By law, a car manufacturer can't void or refuse to repair the car under warranty based on the brand of parts you use unless the parts directly contribute to the damage caused to the car. They also don't have to repair any parts they didn't make. For example, if you install that up pipe and your turbo blows up for lack of oil caused by a problem in the design on Subaru's part, they will have to fix the car. If you put in an aftermarket replacement alternator that dies 2 months after you put it in, Subaru doesn't have to fix anything. If you put in a bigger turbo and up the boost, blowing your head gaskets or piston rings, Subaru does not have to fix the car. If you put in a bigger turbo and your power steering pump takes a dump, Subaru will have to fix the car.

 

They cannot void the warranty based on the parts you put in, unless they find evidence that the part (Or installation of the part) directly caused the problem.

 

If its a big enough problem that would cost them a lot of money, they will try harder to find evidence. If they can't find evidence they could say it was caused by abuse or misuse of the car, for example... Hard driving habits, driving that puts excessive wear on the car, or if they find that a part that normally wears with use (Clutch, brake rotors/pads, ect...) has failed well within it's useful lifespan they could say it was because of the owners driving habits.

1. If you increase the power of the engine, consider any parts of the drivetrain to not be covered by any warranty. You will have to fight hard and they almost always will win.

 

2. Why do you want an up-pipe? If your car is indeed an 08 LGT like your info says, it already has a catless up-pipe. The GS up would offer little gains. Not worth the install trouble IMO.

Especially since the if the gaskets take a dump on the uppie in there now Subaru will still cover it. They won't do that if you replace them, especially if you reuse the stock ones. Not that you should have a problem with those before the warranty runs out, but still.....

 

And the driveline coverage is a good point. If you install a bunch of bolt ons and wear out a CV shaft or U-Joints, good luck getting them to fix it for you. Even if you drive like a grandma.
