987687
So yeah, cylinder 2 plug is stripped. Yay. Anyway, I took the washer off the plug to gain a bit of thread, and it works. But I will only drive it like that as far as my mechanic. Anyway, do I need a whole new head, or can they put a sleeve in, or something? Does the head have to come off? Otherwise I'll need a new head gasket and valve cover gaskets. They'd have to pull the timing belt, etc, etc, etc....
byronchrisp05
The trick is to have them turn the engine over intill the #2 exhaust valve is open, then run air pressure in the exhuast so that there is air blowing out of the spark plug hole. That way it keeps all of the pieces of metal out of the cyl. But the trick is going to be trying to get a drill in here straight. If worst comes to worst might have to take the engine mounts and exhaust off then lift that side of the engine up so you can get at it. KnifeyMcShanker
EDIT: Nevermind, you do have to drill. You could always cut a hole in your fender well to get a drill in there
Platinum_Racing
If your head gasket's gone anyway, might as well pull the head and replace it, then they won't have to risk drilling the new threads off center... They can do it with the head on a bench. It's gonna cost you if you have a mechanic do it for you though...
987687
My head gasket is fine, but since they can't be re-used if they have to take off the head I'll need a new one. And they are not cheap
Platinum_Racing
Sorry, I misread your post. I thought it said you needed gaskets. My bad...
987687
My mechanic can do it without pulling the head http://www.mainelysubarus.com/forums/images/smilies/woohoo.gif
