nemo
I adapted the title from their article, but still: What New Car Is Truly A Sleeper? By Matt Hardigree, 11:20 AM on Wed Feb 11 2009, 853 views A sleeper, or Q-ship, is a vehicle capable of high-performance but doesn't let on with flashy graphics or bodywork. What new car is truly a sleeper? As much as we like the 2010 Ford Taurus SHO, the nickel-finished wheels sort of undo the understated performance look of the original two generations. This is why we're picking the Subaru Legacy GT. Just take one look at the Legacy and, likely, you'll look away. In a sea of mid-size sedans it blends in well, giving no hint of the 243 stealthy turbocharged horsies lurking under the hood. And unlike most FWD sedans, the Legacy's AWD system and tight chassis means it can keep up with sportier cars in the twisty bits. Throw in a manual transmission, avoid the Spec.B options and wow your friends with what is essentially a WRX for adults. http://jalopnik.com/5151473/what-new-car-is-truly-a-sleeper If you don't vote Trump, out, you're a bigot who hates america. 05GT Guru
It think they mean the spec b wouldnt be as sleeper. Idk why, if you dont recognize what GT means on this car then you probably wont know what spec b is.
schwartzki
Damn, I was going to post this...but i was beat....debadged leggy wagon with a FMIC and regular hood with stage 2 mods would be a true sleeper...
05GT Guru
You can have exhaust and be sleeper, there are quite a few nice sleeper cars around here my favorite is a 95 240sx, its white with a teal front bumper, red side skirts and a black rear bumper, oh and did i mention it puts almost 500 to the wheels lol. JoeFromPA
Dude, I had a Nissan Truck with ~34" tires and a "Up yours Ram" sticker on the back race my 06 Civic SI at a light this morning. Now he was a sleeper.... P.s. It was one of these http://autos.msn.com/research/vip/overview.aspx?year=1998&make=Nissan&model=Frontier

schwartzki
What is it with pickups? They always want to race...it annoying cause then I have to waste the gas to put them in their place
05GT Guru
LOL, why dont you race a lightly modded diesel. The can go high 11s low 12s with just a couple electronic and bolt on upgrades
schwartzki
Well those i know are fast...im talking about the rednecks in 96 chevy ck1500 with dual flowmasters the 5.3L thinking hes hot stuff, people like that....not a truck that could actually haul butt like a modded diesel or a ram srt-10 chevy ss 454 etc
JoeFromPA
I feel quite adequate, actually.... on the backroads at least I wasn't warmed up yet (I literally was 1/2 mile from my house), so no racing pick-ups for me Joe
seanlsb
It think they mean the spec b wouldnt be as sleeper. Idk why, if you dont recognize what GT means on this car then you probably wont know what spec b is. According to these clowns, the 2008 spec.b has a "more aggressive front fascia." http://www.legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php?t=105681 Also, the "never before available" si-drive "adjusts the suspension." Bbc84
So now with that article does that make our LGTs less of a sleeper since alot of people visit that site?
mikeislord
The Spec B. doesn't stand out any more than a regular LGT. The guy who wrote that line is dumb.

EquinnoxX
I would have to agree with them on this. 90% of the people that see my car always ask me what it is. The other 10% that know what it is had no idea its the same block as the WRX/STi.
05GT Guru
Correct, we all agree its sleeper but these guys are talking about a car they clearly have no idea about. Also they said the spec b isnt a sleeper because of the agreesive frount bumper, even though its the same as the gts bumper
Spoonwacker
Hehe, I love Jalopnik. Whenever "sleepers" come up, they throw in a good word for the LGT sorry...this forum practically blows goat nuts so im not always on here.Team Pony Express POSTED FROM MY COMPUTER USING A WEB BROWSER
Sdrvr
I'll agree with the premise. I bought this car because I wanted to be in reach of some serious performance with reasonable mods and to NOT attract those blue light specials. So far, so good. Boilersubie
I love it that they basically referred to the Leggy how I do to friends and co-workers: A WRX for adults.
Bolksey85
Did they mention that insurance a lot of times considers the LGT a 4 door family sedan, not a sport sedan, ala WRX. Or at least they did in my case. I asked just for giggles about a Rex and insurance was like 180-190/month or more. My LGT costs me 120/month for a car of the same year, same displacement, more power.
mikesae
I think the new SHO looks great. Ford is making some nice cars these days (they look good in the pictures at least).
