fredrik_wt Posted January 16, 2009 Posted January 16, 2009 I have just bought a "new" outback, 2008. I want to know who low ET that is possible to go with, and how wide the rim can be. Is 8" maximum or can I go with 8,5" with ET45? is ET 40 possible?
adidasoutback Posted January 18, 2009 Posted January 18, 2009 I run a 18x8.5 with a 40mm with no issues and im lowered on coil overs and have fatter then oem tires on it as well. Youve got room!
fredrik_wt Posted January 19, 2009 Author Posted January 19, 2009 Sounds great, can I still go for 8,5 if ET is +45? About tires, is 235/50R18 possibel or will that rubb? maybe 225/50R18 is better?
gf2020 Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 Go wider. I'm going with 245/45R18 on my 18x8.5 +44 wheels.
urfsin Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 I have 245/45/18 tires on 8.5" wide rims. +48 offset. The back rubbed a very little bit on the INNER fender, so I trimmed the plastic a bit and I was fine. So if you can find some 8.5" with a +45 to +40 offset you are gold running 245 tires. fredrik_wt Posted January 20, 2009 Author Posted January 20, 2009 ok, but I want to go with 235/50, 50 is still ok?
urfsin Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 If you are talking 18" wheels, then 235/50 is slightly taller than stock, about a 1/2". I would think you would be ok running that tire. A 225/50 is 1/4" taller than stock and that would be good for sure. Now if you are talking 17" wheels, a 235/50 is about a 1/2" shorter than stock. Don't do 225/50 on a 17....it will be too small and look funny IMO, but you can do it. If you are sticking to 17" wheels, the 245/50/17 size is a VERY close size to stock. Slide It Sideways
fredrik_wt Posted January 21, 2009 Author Posted January 21, 2009 I'm talking about 18", thanks for your reply!
gf2020 Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 ok, but I want to go with 235/50, 50 is still ok? Do you already have those tires? Is that why you want to use that size? As mentioned above, 245/45 is the preferred size for a 18" diameter on an Outback. The 235/50 is 1/4" bigger in diameter overall and that could be a problem.
pachilla Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 19X8 ET 40 with 225/45/19. When the steering wheel is turned all the way, the front tires will touch the plastic liner behind the front fog lamps but I can live with that. http://img60.imageshack.us/img60/669/44586136kf7.jpg http://img368.imageshack.us/img368/9195/28977234gp2.jpg
SiL Outback LTD Posted January 23, 2009 Posted January 23, 2009 *cough* ahem please don't roast me here, but I'm a outback noob so: I put my 2005 LGT wheels from my old 2000 impreza, on my 2005 outback limited. So what tires should I pick up instead of these tiny 215/45/r17's. How big should I go, what brands are good, and how much should I expect to spend. I'm not planning on lowering it so keep that in mind with your advice....Cuz this look just has to go, I'm not feeling the tiny tires at all..... eVoMotion Posted January 23, 2009 Posted January 23, 2009 I have 245/45/18 tires on 8" wide rims. +46 offset and lowered 3" on MeganRacing Coilovers. It rubs in the front inside on full lock. I have Toyo T1Rs for almost three years and love them. Awesome in the wet & dry. http://legacygt.com/forums/album.php?albumid=175

After: http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f170/Carolynsoccer/IMGP3589.jpg LGT wheel has 55mm offset, Outback wheels has 48mm offset, so the LGT wheels and tires on an Outback will look "tucked in" You may purchase wheel spacers to push the wheels outwards if you know what you are doing.

With stock 17" Legacy rims, you should probably just run the stock 17" Outback size: 225/55R17
SiL Outback LTD Posted January 23, 2009 Posted January 23, 2009 so about 235/50's seem to be the best plan for 17's that or a 245/45/r17 something like that... How do the T1R's do in the snow?
urfsin Posted January 23, 2009 Posted January 23, 2009 I should have read this before my post but, what brands are good and how much? Well if you plan on keeping those LGT rims, I would say get the stock size tire. 225/55/17. Slide It Sideways
Diggs753 Posted January 29, 2009 Posted January 29, 2009 I was looking into a set of 06 SpecB rims and a set of Prodrive p1 18" w/53 offset for a 07 OBXT w/stock suspension.Anyone have a set up similar? And will I need spacers or rings to makes this work? thanks

If you have an 8 inch wide wheel it will be better. 17x7 +55mm offset http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f170/Carolynsoccer/IMGP3589.jpg 19x8 +40mm offset http://img377.imageshack.us/img377/5563/87018309ps0.jpg An 8 inch wide wheel with +40 offset will push the outside lip of the wheel out 27.7mm or around 1.1 inch when compared to a 7inch wide wheel at +55mm offset.
urfsin Posted January 29, 2009 Posted January 29, 2009 Yeah, don't be too scared of a lower offset wheel. You can go down to +45 no sweat and even down to +40 on an Outback. Remember that Outback stock offset is +48 Slide It Sideways
Diggs753 Posted January 29, 2009 Posted January 29, 2009 Yeah they are 7.5..and they have 5mm spacer that might be included in the deal...http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php?t=100381
OhBe1 Posted January 29, 2009 Posted January 29, 2009 FWIW, our 235/55/17's on stock rims, come close at full lock, but do not rub. 06LOB2.5i MT, JDMRSB, GYTTs, HPS, LGT Mufflers & Leather Wheel, SubiMomo Knob, Inalfa Moonroof, Clutch Switch Bypass, DeDRLd, DeChimed, & Straight Headrest.
Xenonk Posted January 29, 2009 Posted January 29, 2009 you can do something as wide as 9.5" (see my FAQ) and just stretch a 265/40/18 or something near that size over them. Keefe
