SubieSteve
I picked up a set of Hawk Ceramics from autoanything.com and just got around to installing them on Sunday. When installing the front passenger set I noticed the metal spring tab was not in the correct position. It looks like it was a defective piece but still used (it didn't look damaged). I tried to bend it but it snapped off pretty easily. I installed the pad (needed to) and tested the car. It seems fine - but I'm not sure what the long term impact would be on the pad/rotor. Does anyone know the spring tab's purpose? Is it for noise reduction? Would it make sense to contact the retailer or the manufacturer for recourse? Thanks! Mr. Sinister
Are you talking about the wear indicator? It's a little metal tab/clip that extends slightly past the metal backing plate that will contact the rotor to make a squealing noise to let you know that the pads are almost worn out. SubieSteve
No it's not the ware indicator. It's a springy piece of metal that rests against the bracket that bolts over the rotor. I wish I had picture. If I find something I'll post it.
magnetic1
Are you talking about the retainer clips? The ones that attach to the caliper brackets do not come with pads. They are a OEM Subaru part that retains the pads in the bracket. Free Sonax Cleaner Deal http://www.brakeswap.com Carbotech, Hawk, PFC, DBA Rotors, Motul, Wilwood, Castrol... Great service.
