MaStaMooN
Hey all, Coming up on 50k miles on my car and im starting to feel the brakes shudder a little and I know I'm due for brakes regardless. I want to do a small upgrade without 'braking' the budget... Whats the best pad/rotor combo that would be as close to stock brake overall performance.. Looking for a stage 0/1 here.. front and rear pads and rotors. My car is Stage 2 plus Top Mount with TDC e-tune. Driving style is mildly aggressive I would say with very few bursts of asshattery. Thanks in advance. Jon - vBGarage Profile
Mr. Sinister
DBA blank rotors and Hawk HPS pads are what I'll most likely go with when it's time. Edit: I just checked and it looks like Porterfield R4S pads are available for our cars. I've heard nothing but good things about those pads. Scooby2.5
get ahold of thekingofparts. Jeremy S will fix you up with a kit he is a vendor on this site. Cheapest I have ever seen for these parts was from him I put DBA4000 slotted rotors, Hawk HPS pads, and braided lines.

Tarmac Junkie
If you want to get the best bang for the buck. First, keep you're stock rotors, they will be just fine, just have them turned. Second, Flush you're old brake fluid with ATE Superblue, (12 bucks form tire rack). Third, buy hawk hp+ pads. This combo will cost between $150-200. The pads will feel better than hps but with more noise and dust.
MaStaMooN
Thanks for the posts. Looks like the Hawks are the favorite for pads... a stock replacement rotor should be fine.. will atleast replace the front rotors and maybe just the rear pads. Thanks for the info! caramall2
If you're not tracking the car, etc., I agree...stock rotors should be fine (heck, several guys have tracked them). I've used Bobcats for daily driving and their fine. (In the summer on the street, if I'm pushing the car at higher speeds, I actually like XP-8 knowing I won't have fade issues. But most probably wouldn't do this as they're dustier, noisier, etc. On the track, I have XP-10s (have tried XP-8s but they were at their limit...did fine, but I just want at least one step up).) magnetic1
SS lines + ATE brake fluid would make it feel better Depends how old the car is. If it is brand new, SS lines wouldnt change the feel all that much. Free Sonax Cleaner Deal http://www.brakeswap.com Carbotech, Hawk, PFC, DBA Rotors, Motul, Wilwood, Castrol... Great service. magnetic1
SHould be ok. More aggressive pads would give you more of a difference in pedal feel. slimjoe
Stock rotors and Hawk HPS pads. Flush your brake fluid while you're at it (ATE Super Blue or the yellow stuff, same thing, just different color)
magnetic1
Stock rotors and Hawk HPS pads. Flush your brake fluid while you're at it (ATE Super Blue or the yellow stuff, same thing, just different color) Id use the gold or some other similar fluid. Skip the ATE Blue. It stains and turns everything blue! Annoying as hell. Free Sonax Cleaner Deal http://www.brakeswap.com Carbotech, Hawk, PFC, DBA Rotors, Motul, Wilwood, Castrol... Great service. SuperhawkLGT
I will probably run bobcats as I have experience with them, can anyone compare bobcats to hawks as far as life, dust and noise? There is a good deal on axis rear pads that I found, any problem running bobcat fronts and axis rears? How are the Hawk ceramics?

There is a good deal on axis rear pads that I found, any problem running bobcat fronts and axis rears? How are the Hawk ceramics? Life is prolly similar to HPS, dust is not dark black, but there is dust. And noise is a possibility under light braking. Axis will be super dark black dust, but would pair well with Bobcats up front. Free Sonax Cleaner Deal http://www.brakeswap.com Carbotech, Hawk, PFC, DBA Rotors, Motul, Wilwood, Castrol... magnetic1
Can anyone comment on Hawk ceramics? Less aggressive than HPS, but will last longer and dust less. djsnoops: when you are due for replacement let us know. We have similar but cheaper and our slots dont go all the way to the edges for better integrity. MaStaMooN
Im going to go with new OEM front rotors and HPS pads all around I think. Should be able to pull that in for under 300 bucks. Jon - vBGarage Profile

MaStaMooN
LGT oem rotors = 130 for set of 2 HPS Front = 85 HPS Rear = 69 Total = 284 plus shipping. Jon - vBGarage Profile
SuperhawkLGT
Ah, I missed the front part, thought you meant four rotors, which is what I need to do. Can't decide, Bobcats or HPS, money is a huge difference for each. Are bobcats worth the extra dough? I had them on my WRX and loved them, but they didn't last all that long. magnetic1
Depends on what you wanna do with the car. Bobcats will definitely give you more feel and bite, but the HPS will last longer. SuperHawk, January special has rear slotted rotors on sale now too. We discount HPS with rotor purchase, but if you want Bobcats, I may be able to discount those for you instead. Lemme know if I can help! LGT oem rotors = 130 for set of 2 HPS Front = 85 HPS Rear = 69 Total = 284 plus shipping. Just to note, we beat that. We sell OE-grade blanks with HPS for less including shipping. Actually WAY less until prices just went up. Under $300 shipped for the whole shabang. We held off on price increases from Hawk for a while until we had to buy more at the higher price. SuperhawkLGT
I need all 4 pads and rotors. 55k I don't think I can get away with just turning my original rotors, fronts were already done once. PM me your best prices, I don't track or autocross I just want good street brakes. I already have ss lines and valvoline synth fluid, thanks.
